quick question: who's the guy behind the bench? It's not Larry Carrière, who like 60 and pretty big. The guy i saw last night looked like 35 and skinny. Very confused.

Cunneyworth was leaning over and giving instruction to a player during a stop in play and Weber, sitting next to that player, gave a big eyeroll. Not a good sign.

I like how some people say: ''Language is not important , you have to go for the best coach available.''

First of all , language is tremendously important to us quebecois. What's surprising is that some anglos haven't figured that one out. They can disagree with it , but things won't change so since quebecois are a enormous part of the Canadiens fanbase , you should at least respect it.

Now , on the second point , if you told me the top 2 candidates were Lindy Ruff and Benoit Groulx , I'm all for taking Lindy Ruff , one of the best coaches in the league , but when you start to talk about average NHL coaches or even minor/junior coaches , you better make sure he speaks french. This is ridiculous.

It's not fair to take my response out of context either. I was responding to someone that posted how they had observed a half a dozen changes or so. And I was merely pointing out that these changes, if indeed real, didn't seem to be having a positive effect, as the poster implied they might.

As for blowing things up, by this I mean I would like to see a changing of the guard and a new direction ASAP: Get rid of Gauthier and set up new management and a new coach. If that coach is Cunneyworth, fine, but let him and the team know this is our guy and this is the direction we are going. This "interim" label that's been thrown around for our new coach and the uncertainty associated with where things are going are just not conducive to achieving the results we all want to see on the ice. And, my God, what a time to give Cunneyworth the reins; we have a crap load of injuries and our next two opponents are Boston and Chicago!

I'm strongly opposed to naming Patrick Roy as the new coach. People with lots of passion and little judgment in their professional and/or personal lives often go straight to hell and drag others down with them.

I disagree, I think its shortened his leash. He could have kept JM until he missed the playoffs and then brought in his own coach of his picking.

He's really gambling here imo. Which I kind of like.

What I also like about Cunneyworth over Muller is Randy actually has head coaching experience.

So you're saying that if clearly the most qualified coach were a unilingual anglo, you'd hire him? Good, that's what everyone else here is saying.

...except for the few quebecois posters here who seem to suggest that it's not that big of a dilemma, because the quebecois coach will be the most qualified anyways...

But while we're on this topic, I do believe that some very qualified candidates for both GM and Coach have been looked over because of the language issue. But thank goodness the language issue was "respected" in that case. Amirite?

Hey guys, if Ruff gets canned in Buffalo, would you jump on it? It looks like a likely possibility.

Nope. Sitting in a pressbox with Gauthier "until they figure it out".

Sabres are in a tail spin, they have some pretty bad contracts...their owner spoke out yesterday. My guess it's the same situation as here. There were big expectations for the Sabres this year, they spent a lot of money. The owner is probably breathing down the GMs neck and to buy himself some time perhaps he will fire Ruff.

I could be 100% wrong, but would you be surprised if he was canned given the team's recent performance?

Even better! He's already qualified.

No, but seriously, I'd take Ruff in a heart beat. He isn't my 'dream' choice, but he's certainly qualified.

However, he's been in Buffalo what, almost 15 years now? I don't think they're gonna fire him mid-season. I think he's earned the right to try to save the Sabres' season.

Ruff will have way more pressure here than he had in Buffalo the last few years.I would still hire him if he was available. He is a great choice , and we all feel bad for him for what happened with Hull. Not to mention the Briere year in the eastern conference final they had their top 4 dmen injured or something very close. He was very unlucky and could have easily won a cup.

Ruff would be at the top of my list if he were available.
