if rnh goes, i'd be surprised if anyone else got the c. him aside, i'd think either huberdeau or harrington.

Uh, RNH isn't Brett Connolly. He will get the C if he plays on this team.

If RNH is there I expect he'll get the C. He's a former first overall pick and an established nhl star. Players look up to a guy like that. But of course I've never talked to anyone who will be on the team, so I can't say who has good leadership qualities behind closed doors

Cameron attemtped to change his coaching style and it was a mess, Hay with his backward thinking tried to pick the best Team Canada defensively ever yet it's maybe Canada's worst junior team defensively in the last decade. Spott is no Scott Bowman but at least he knows to play to a players strengths. Haven't had a coach like that since we last won.

Also, there was no point to take MacKinnon, he had no chance to make the roster. There is no point to waste a spot on him when you can bring someone else who has a chance to make the team. Imagine if Team Canada took a MacKinnon esque player in 2010, Foligno probably doesn't make the training camp. There was just no point to bring him.
There are no restrictions on the number of players HC can invite to selection camp (at least none that I'm aware of) so an argument against not inviting one player because it means another player doesn't get an invite to camp is ...well not so great... but it wouldn't surprise if HC did have such a restriction, they are at HC as dumb as dirt.

Bell is playing wing.
Racking up points and has a big body presence. Don't hear much about him for WJC.

There might be no restrictions but they don't want to take any more players than they have to. If MacKinnon was there, another player probably wouldn't have been. MacKinnon was simply not ready to make the team, there was no point in brining him.

here is an interview with Al Murray last year where he explains why he didn't think MacKinnon should be invited to wjc camp.

I'd say no since he wasn't invited to the Subway Series.

Tbh I just assumed he was too old since he never gets discussed. If he's eligible he should definitely get an invite, he's a beauty.

Captain was Colin Archer, don't know when the last 17-year-old captain was in the WHL. Always find it surprising even when 18-year-olds get named captain in the Dub like Reinhart this year, Siemens last year, and Ponich I guess a few seasons ago I guess. WHL is a lot more conservative with these things, they still don't even allow high numbers and OHL has been allowing it for years and years.

Thanks, didn't think so. Hence why I think it would be silly for him to captain the WJ team. It's not minor hockey, you dont' just give it to the best player.

A guy who you don't hear a lot about that I think would make a PERFECT 13th forward is Scott Laughton. He does everything well and is exactly the type of character player you love wearing your country's jersey.

He wins faceoffs, scores goals, hits, fights (not applicable, lol). Kills penalties, great on the point on the PP in Oshawa (obv wouldn't see PP at WJC), blocks shots, character guy in the room.

Scott Laughton is everything I would love to have in a hockey player on my team. Obviously an uphill climb for him to make this team but when you're talking 13th forward role, he would be my guy.

This team is going to be so sick...

Well, Murray was the captain of his U18 squad, and is a returning member of the U20 squad, so he should be an obvious member of any leadership "short list".

He was named captain for '11/12 in spring '11 after the '10/11 season ended. So he was 17...and he was 17 for the first couple of games of the season when he was captain (his b-day is late september).

RNH-Huberdeau

I wouldn't want to be the other teams defenseman or goalie.

Best duo.

What I don't get is why everyone has Subban as the starter. Feels like the Wedgewood situation that we had last year where he was the brand new starting goalie and thought to be the solution. Didn't happen. While I agree Subban is the favourite, its easily conceivable to think someone could usurp him.
