Maybe not firing Wilson & Bourke.....yet.

But it's clearly time for the return of the waffle.

i hope rw is canned. imagine the embarrassment if a rebuilding team makes it to the dance with the leafs heading to the links for the 7th season in a row.

Spezza, Alfredson, Gonchar and that goalie guy says "retool on the fly".

they're a rebuilding team. alfredsson is there for mentoring, spezza is their core and gonchar is a bloated contract that no other team wants. gonchar and alfredsson are old too so they're gone in 2-3 years.

it's pretty universally known this is ottawa's first rebuilding year. that's why they've been predicted to be dead last by almost everyone before the season started. a third of the way through the season, they've played above expectations but are still underrated by plenty in the league, mostly rival fanbases at this point.

I'm well aware of what Ottawa is doing. But they did bring in some solid goaltending to keep them competitive this year.

every rebuilding team signs players. they need to fill a roster. doesn't mean they aren't rebuilding. in ottawa's case, leclaire was in the last year of his contract, and was going to be a UFA. considering his awful tenure there, he wasn't going to be resigned, so they brought in anderson who had been made expendable by colorado. they didn't bring him expecting him to turn them into a contender. they just needed a goalie.

Alfredson who's a life long Sen who's a year away from retiring? Spezza who's 28 can be part of the team. Gonchar was a bad signing that is unmovable until next year when his contract is expiring if they want to move him then. As for the goalie. You kind of need one of those he's just found his game in Ottawa. You still need vets when your rebuilding to teach the young guys.

Just shot right over yopur head. Leafs have a couple of vets, including Beauch and Komi and it's a win now, rebuild on the fly. Ottawa trades for a goalie and keeps Spezza and they are a "proper rebuild". Burke adds a waiver goalie (for 12 games) and he's an idiot. Ottawa trades for an older goalie for the year and it's all part of the plan.

Such a double standard.

The mistake Burke made getting that waiver goalie was that he was better than what they had and took them out of the lottery. With 12 games left they should have gone with what they had and drafted higher or at least not had to trade up. Ottawa traded for a goalie they hoped could fit in with their team long term and has. Burke added a goalie he had no plans on keeping. Big difference. Keeping a player that's only played for your team that still leads your team in every offensive category is very different than adding two dmen. You could compare adding Gonchar to the leafs adding Komi or Beauch. That signing made no sense then for the sens and really still doesn't today.

i for one hope ottawa does ok so they don't get a superstar

they are not a playoff team, that's for sure

if ottawa surpasses the leafs for a playoff spot, then we truly don't deserve to be in the dance

What's funny to me is, it's not about Ottawa, or Edmonton or anybody else. It's about the Leafs and their improvement. Maybe in a couple years, when we actually see the results, we can compare, but right now, why?

Even better is, the people who jumped ship and ran off to another team because Bourke didn't do it right, are now giving Ottawa praises? Wow

That's a double standard too, right? Wait... what does double standard mean? Whatever..... I'll just keep throwing it out there and hope nobody calls me on it.
