Do I think it should be a suspendable hit? No I do not, Larsson has gotta keep his head up
But do I think it will/should be a suspendable hit? Yes I do because of how the NHL has changed its ways....
My sentiments exactly.
"The good old days" are often overrated by some; not me. However, change is not always for the better. Such is the case in the draconian, Big-Brother, crowd-sourcing, Zapruder frame-by-frame video-deconstruction approach to hyper-reviewing everything that occurs on an NHL rink these days.
It lends itself to magnifying the mundane, which, in turn, manifests in over-reactive manipulation (punishment).
I don't care whether Cole gets suspended or not. I'm just happy that Larsson appears to be ok.
seriously. thats the most important thing. the game is over, his noggin is ok, its under the bridge. that said....i hope janssen is set loose on cole next meeting.

Your last point, though perhaps offered in jest, is important...and it goes directly to the difference of perspective of those who want Big Brother Brendan and the NHL to come down often with punishment on plays from afar...and those of us who believe such action on his part should be EXTREMELY RARE.
The players are the game. I want to watch the players play. And, I want the players to "regulate" their own game, as had been the case for the first 100 years of this league. Officiating - be it on ice or off (Shanahan) - should be guided by a hands-off approach. Less is more. Do no harm. Take action only when absolutely necessary...as opposed to seeking opportunities to stick one's itchy trigger fingers on the context of the game, nightly.
It may not play to the seemingly insatiable thirst among some fans and media types to "play God" with the great athletes who entertain them, but it will make for a better, less coreographed product, one in which raw emotion is being overly regulated and phased out. Of that, I'm positive.

Maybe Larsson should even do it himself. He's a big kid, he could probably tune up Cole pretty good.
But seriously, I'd be happy to see some frontier justice come from Janssen or Boulton.

oh im serious about cammer being told to give him what for. and i agree that the players should be the police out there. now i didnt see the game, or the hit last night, but i would hope that any devil that saw their prized prospect even looked at the wrong way taken out. let alone a questionable hit. one thing ive noticed since the likes of dano and stevens have left is that marty is taken advantage of and not backed up in an equal manner, just a slight hand wash or a nudge. and the forwards barely make a peep save for clarkson(bless his retarded soul). the team needs a pmd, a new goalie prospect, and a bigger spine because clarkson cant fight everyone and cammer sees 30 seconds a game. i dont think the suspensions will curb everything or even have a lasting effect. these players will always do what they do. and since shanny isnt on the ice for the devs to dole out a punch in the face, id hope any player within arms length would leap at the chance to stand up for their teammate. no matter who it is. oh and im happy to see that kovy does that occasionally. but his fury needs to go beyond avery.

Check the News from around the league thread. There`s yesterday`s Don Cherry`s coach`s corner episode I posted. The hit on Larsson is at 4:45 mark.
Larsson's pass to Clarkson and Kovalchuk's pass to Zubrus on their goals were amazing. Beautiful threads through traffic over a large expanse of ice. Very well done.
i just hope we can keep on going.. henrique is such a stud. I know its been beaten to death but one star defenseman like suter or weber instantaneously turns this team into a cup contender.. if they arent already< not trying to jinx anything but.. up front we could dominate a lot of teams night after night. now its just a matter of solidifying ourselves defensively

they do have the makeup of a much better team overall lets not get to optimistic, but i agree they at least have a team where if the right piece is added they could be dangerous

give me one more chance with parise and kovalchuk in the playoffs please

well they have to make sure no dumb penalties are taken, this is the new nhl where if you breathe on a guy wrong you go away, that being said boulton is becoming quite useless, i might like to see sestito get on the wing in lieu of boulton

i think they have to enough to make post season barring injury. also they have 3 right handed defensman in the lineup now which is something they have not had ever, it didn't matter when it was stevens.dano. neid etc etc. but that alone makes the offense faster and more potent
Its too bad that Martin left the team because he is exactly the type of player that would fit perfectly with this defense. I understand he's been pretty terrible this year but the Devils really need a minute eating defense that can move the puck.

We need a legit #1. The team's D is sad right now, I'm including Greene too. We won't be chasing cups til that gets addressed and maybe some more team speed makes the team.

Kovalchuks pass to Elias on the PP was nice as well. Threaded it down the middle between every player right to Elias' stick.
I agree. They need a difference maker on both sides of the puck. Imagine a 25 minute a night, every situation guy and how that would allow the rest of this current D corp to fall into place. Including giving Larsson more cushion to develop.
The difference between Tallinder and Martin is not vast, IMO. Those guys are attainable (and, while important, also often overpaid). The dman NJD needs is very hard to come by, simply because teams do not give up bonafide top pairing dmen easily....and they are not inexpensive.
