Unless I am blind, I don't see the Visnovsky being dealt away. I think this list is not a very good one, but you can't be blamed of course. That is some weak ESPN stuff.

Thanks,

It's hard to find a complete list of transactions for any team, at least with the time that I have,

So the Richards and Visnovsky deal isn't there, but I saw the Smyth deal etc...

Looks like a guy who did stuff. Some panned out, some didn't. Sounds about normal.

Thanks sjmay and Ziggy for providing these results. Going through the list, trying to avoid the drafting side of things....

The list of players who IMO didn't pan out for the Kings. Forgive me if I forgot anyone from the trade side of things:

Cloutier
O'sullivan (although was used to get Williams)
Modry
Lundmark
Gauthier
Labarbara
Halpern
Modin
Sturm
Penner

Those that did:

Johnson
Richardson
O'Donnell
Williams
Smyth
Richards

Besides the gift of richards, he gutted all the talent the team had to start the rebuild that got him Johnson and guys like Stoll and Greene (at the high cost of visnovsky).

Overall I'm not impressed at all by his transactions.

Look at your list though,

3 of them were minor leaguers/fillers, Gauthier and Lundmark were NEVER EVER EVER brought in to play for the big club,

Cloutier I agree with, but he was listening to his newly hired coach as well, so meh, Modry's 2nd stint was not like his first, so ok, sure, Halpern and Modin didn't work out?? How so? They did exactly what they were brought in to do.

Penner is still a question mark for me, with the whole team suffering this malaise, he's been working hard and playing well since coming back from his injury,

On your list of guys that did work out, you missed Richards, though you mentioned him, as well as Stoll and Greene, though you mentioned them, you missed Handzus, Scuderi, Mitchell, Gagne (though he can be a question mark) Fraser,

When you add those guys in and compare their roles on LA compared to the list that you said didn't work out, hands down he has done a bang up job...

If you don't consider the drafting then it's hard to not give Lombardi a fair grade since I would consider drafting > Acquisitions via trade

You also forgot to add Mitchell AND Scuderi from free agency to this transaction list, which IMO are two HUGE pieces that have been great for us.

Your list of panned out pieces probably needs to look more like this

Johnson
Richardson
O'Donnell
Williams
Smyth
Richards
Scuderi?
Mitchell?
Stoll?
Greene?
Gagne?
Handzus?

I'd say Penner is still a question mark. He has been one of our best forwards since returning from his hand injury.

I'd say that is a really damn good list of players that have been brought here.

I just used the NHL tracker for summer free agent signings which didn't include those players (or Matt Moulson, Joe Piskula, etc).

Oh yeah, how could I forget about Moulson too?

Either way, while he did trade away some good players, he HAS acquired good players too.

You know what's interesting, is that he managed to turn guys like Preissing into Smyth, and Stuart into Richardson, and Cloutier into Simmonds, etc, his trading up at the draft or for more picks has netted us guys like Simmonds, Martinez, Voynov, Loktionov, etc, I am probably missing more like Clifford etc,

11 series won
53-33 record in playoff games

Kings - In the playoffs since 2006:

0 Stanley Cup
0 series won
4-8 record in playoff games

Seeing the difference of the on ice product with the Kings against some of the top teams in the NHL, it's quite clear that what is most important is the drafting and development of high end talent. The Kings have drafted very few top end talent. Most of the Lombardi drafted players who have panned out are good support role players.

True, but on the flip side, there is very very few top end talent to be drafted, unless you finish in the bottom 10 of the league every year,

The Kings drafted top end talent in Doughty and Kopitar, possibly Forbort, possibly Hickey, those are both very big question marks, I am gonna wait until Hickey hits 26 before calling him a complete bust, unlike the guys who decry bust bust, and the kid is 21....

Beg to differ. If your scouts can do their job...i'd say late first round and early scond is capable of producing a lot of stars.
