Hey guys, not a Yotes fan by trade but I like Rundblad and I'm a stickler for jersey numbers. Anybody know why Rundblad is wearing/was given #2 for the Yotes when it appears #7 is available? Just curious. Rundblad wore 7 in Sweden and with the Sens. Good luck with the trade I hope Rundblad reaches his potential and it works out well for you guys.

Nobody has worn 7 since Tkachuk left. It is slated for retirement at some point.
Retiring he number is so stupid. Unless you are in a Gretsky/Lemeiux type of conversation or just a notch below with multiple championships, your name hanging somewhere in the building is more than enough.
Seems like he really likes to work down low. He's definitely going to need to be paired with Aucoin or OEL in the short-term. Someone who can sit back and play effectively on odd men rushes that are the downside to that style of play. No Schlemko or Yandle pairings.
I noticed on those video that he was throwing the elbow a bit on the hits. I don't want him to get penalties or be a dirty player but I like the nastiness! (if that's a word)

I think he'll get a game or two at the very least. Jim Playfair is highly regarded in his abilities to teach the position of Defense. Adrian Aucoin in particular had some interesting comments on how good of an influence Playfair had on his game.
I see him as a second PP option at this point but he'll get a shift or two with Yandle. I'm already envisioning a 3 on 0 breakout the other way as both Yandle and Rundblad get caught up ice.
He's got loads of skill and has some very pretty moves. What made him great in the SEL is his patience with the puck. He'll hold on to it until an option opens up and if it doesn't, he'll just keep waiting. Unfortunately that's also been his biggest problem in the NHL.
He'll often try to do too much and will make you want to kill him when he coughs up the puck. Hopefully in time he'll become a terrific offensive defenceman. He's a cross between Kaberle and Subban. The good and the bad.

We had a bit of that last year with OEL at times. It's just part of the adjustment. I anticipate that by the end of this season OEL will be our 2nd best d man. We're hoping Rundblad has a similar learning curve. I really like the Zubov comparison talk. I just have no idea how we are going to pay our blueline in 3-4 years time. Too much high end talent.
Keep in mind OTT is dead last in GA/G this season. Minuses amongst blueliners are commonplace there.

Minuses are to be expected on Ottawa rooster but I'd say Rundblad's play in the D zone has been pretty bad and the minus rating is deserved, he has been playing sheltered minutes.
However, the sky is the limit for him as his poise with the puck is beyond this world. I wished he would have shoot the puck more often but I guess its a confidence thing.
As often mentioned when talking about Erik Karlsson, defense can be learned but vision and offensive insticts cant.

Though Craig Anderson's stat line is horrendous.
I think the Sens system is at fault. They are, intentionally (see strategy comments by GM), playing a risky game since they are very focused on attacking. The D are incouraged to play high and the although they obviously don't want the other team to score the general mentality there is (basically) to go for a 6-4 win rather than a 2-0 win. It is a very unrewarding system for the teams D as well as for Andersson.
That said, Rundblad definitely needs to focus on his defence and I hope and think that he'll be able to learn a thing or two about it in PHX (as OEL did during last year). If not sent to the AHL he will need to be paired with a strong defensive D-man.
