Lots of energy/compete from both teams, but you can tell the legs aren't quite fully under either squad right now. There's going to be more "reaching" defensively, and a more open game as a result, until one team or the other can right the ship. Have to like the Blues chances in a game like this with their roster depth and Halak in net.

IMO, the biggest Blues tactical concern at the moment is tightening up the zone exits. I saw multiple instances of the forwards flying the zone while the defensive partner didn't position himself effectively as an outlet option for his parter. No excuse for not cleaning that up as the game goes along. Can't leave the last man back out on an island like that.

I'm so glad Hitchcock has taken over and now Pietrangelo is worthless when it comes to generating offense.

Other than Steen-Backes-Oshie the whole team is struggling.

Blues look flat and unenthused for some reason. Have to beat the weak teams on a regular basis in this league.

Especially with a tough schedule the rest of the month.

Key game tonight for that reason.

They aren't moving at all. Many times you are seeing them standing.. literally not moving and sitting on the line for someone else to do the leg work. Very ugly!

True but how is Pietrangelo being used? Is he getting the same powerplay time as before? Is Hitchcock encouraging him to make the offensive play or is he over-stressing defense (like he always has)? Pietrangelo looked like he was about to be one of the best young offensive defensemen in the game and Hitchcock is going to squash that miserably I'm afraid.

It has nothing to do with Hitchcock. Petro has been focused on D since the start of the season.

He hasn't been making good passes and shoots a lot. Other than that his game is the same. Hitch hasn't been using him any different.

WHY can't Halak catch a damn puck that lands in his trapper? ALWAYS bounces out. That should NEVER happen! UGH. He stands and just watches instead of being prepared.... he doesn't use his stick effectively. I freak out watching Halak's style.

Good time for a scrap. Lethargic period by STL. Not surprising after that emotional game last night.

Good to see Polak step up to get this team going, though I'd have preferred it to be Reaves destroying someone.

I really enjoy the Jackets being such a crap team with such punk players. Byers whaling away on Polak while he was on the ice is an extreme violation of hockey code and demands some serious deserved cheap shots directed the Jackets' way.
