Some info on Nikolai Prokhorkin, LW
GP: 15 G: 9 A: 17 P: 26 PIM: 47
Quote:
LOWDOWN: Most people aren't familiar with Prokhorkin due to the fact he has not been involved in any major international events but the forward - who can play center as well as on the wing - will provide an NHL team with a gifted, creative playmaker in future years. He also isn't prone to over-passing the puck and has solid finishing skills. Standing at 6-foot-2, he uses his 191 lbs frame well and doesn't shy away from physical play. His strong play this season earned him a KHL call-up where he performed admirably.

With Voynov looking like a long term NHL player, its good to take a shot at another Russian.

From Pronman:

Quote:
22. Nikolai Prokhorkin, Center, CSKA-MHL

The late birthdate has been a scoring force in Russia's Junior league the last two years and has gotten a small amount of KHL action as well. He is listed as a winger, but he plays center and excels as a center. He has not played in major international events, so he doesn't get the limelight but he deserves it. Prokhorkin is a skilled forward with above-average puck-handling abilities who can make things happen in open ice. His best trait is his hockey sense and vision as he's a very creative playmaker who really finds his linemates well and makes a lot of things happen on the ice by being a focal point of the attack. Now while he's a gifted passer, he isn't an over-passer and has the ability to be a decent finisher as well. Prokhorkin is an average skater—not your typical Russian blazer—but he can move just fine. Where Prokhorkin deviates pleasantly from the stereotype for a skilled Russian is he's a big-body forward who likes to play physically. He still needs to put on a fair amount of muscle, but the North American game shouldn't be an issue at all for Prokhorkin.

Good selection. We certainly don't shy away from Russians. I like it.

PLEASE,

I hope this kid doesn't waste his development and time in the KHL.

Don't want to end up like Maxim Kitsym(two years wasted)

Sounds like Dean is focusing on adding skilled, play-making forwards with great hockey sense. I guess people can't say he doesn't draft skill this year.

Anyone have more links to read up on Prokhorkin?

Like it a lot

Nikolai Prokhorkin : Probably an unfamiliar name to most, but he really got my attention when he was the last guy cut from team Russia. This is his draft year and the big winger is a lock in my mind to go in the early second. He is dominating the MHL and had a brief stint in the KHL. He’s 6’2 and 189 and loves to hit like a truck. I got to see live a great hit against Magnitogorsk where he sent Apalkov flying. Despite being on a stacked team and drawing 2nd line duties, he has 14 points in 7 games. This kind of production for a guy his age is very rare, especially added with his size. He might be the most talented Russian in the draft.

If he can actually get ice time in the KHL, I have no problem with him staying there. The problem is young players don't play big minutes unless you're elite ala Tarasenko.

Now you can see why I was wanting him so badly. I thought there was no way he or Slepy fell this far but ******* it he did! So great!

Dean's entire draft was almost forwards last year. Only Gibson was not.

It's nice having a Russian player the young prospects can look up to in Voynov (and maybe Loktionov in the future). Could help ease their transition when they come to the States.

Have you heard anything over there about him heading over? He could very easily head straight to the AHL I think. Slava did it. Nikolay can too.

This year there's more a focus on potential top-six skill compared to last year, in my opinion.

That's true last year's crop was really gritty.
