We are season ticket holders and a few issues we have wth entertainment value are the following....
1. Wheeler... Get his annoying voice off the load speaker. Why is it that 90% of the time he is in the lower bowl giving out stuff? That is crap.
2. They give out prizes even if the contestant is wrong???? Then whats the point?
3. Music. They started playing recognizable music at the last Cap game, but the crap they play for the pre game warm up is less to be desired.
4. Replays.. Even if the play dosn't go in Winnipegs favor show the replay anyway.
5. Time to have some REAL player introductions. Like at the home opener.
I know ther are some people who show up mid way through the first like the game is an inconvienience for them, I suspect those will be the people who will say quit whining, but when you spen big $$$ for the entertainment value, we do have a say as to what we want to watch.....
Guess what! Half season ticket holder right here. Do you see me complaining? Man. Be happy we have a team. Let alone a young, fast, and talented team.
For me I look at the entertainment between periods or shirts being shot into the stands as something that really suited the Moose or other family sporting venues. It made the entire night family friendly and kept the kids occupied and entertained and it was great.
Now that we are back in the NHL some things are still necessary for sponsors but the less intrusive the better. I think the focus is back to where it should be and that is on Hockey, but it is 2011-12 now and not 1996 so we can still enhance the game day experience but for me that is more like what is done for a rock concert.....Lazer lighting , better sound system, HD screen with timely quality video clips, kick a55 music when and where it is needed to augment the main show which is the hockey game. for my money TNSE have done a very solid job on this so I have zero complaints!!
It's about the hockey for sure but that is NHL hockey 2012 style not 1996.
Holy ****, everyday another thread complaining about nothing. The in-house entertainment isn't lacking, it's how NHL hockey should be presented. The focus should be on the game, and it is. This isn't the AHL where gimmicks are needed to attract people.
People need to stop whining, it's honestly embarrassing. If I was a fan of another team and visited our board I'd laugh at us.
The thing that bugs me is that Dave Wheeler was always extremely negative and a huge ****** about the return of the NHL before it happened and now he gets to be employed simply because of his connections with the Moose. Not only that, but he tries to come across as this big sports fan, but he couldn't even pronounce "Tretiak" and he didn't seem to know that the goalie Esposito's first name is Tony.

I'd bet Wheeler knows hockey. He was on his way to a professional career before an eye injury. He's not great, but who cares he's on the mic for maybe a total of five minutes a game.

I disagree, it isn't complaining about nothing. I do agree in the sense that I'm just a huge hockey fan so that's all I need at the game.
Like was mentioned earlier, I'm a huge CFL fan too and the Bombers halftime shows are humourously bad, but I've only missed a handful of games in the last 15 years.
TNSE can afford to upgrade between play entertainment. This is an unbiased viewpoint too... If I'm not wandering the concourse I can just mess around on my phone during intermission.

He may know something about playing hockey, but he very obviously is nothing more than a casual "fan" of the NHL. And considering just how much of a jerk he was to anyone talking about the potential return of the NHL, I'd rather he wasn't now making money off the NHL team. He's not a particularly good in game host anyways.
They're probably waiting for the Coyotes to fold, then when the team relocates to Quebec, the Nordiques will hand over to Winnipeg all the past honours and promotion rights that are presently held in pheonix.
Honouring past Jets players has nothing to do with Phoenix.
If that were the case then they wouldn't have given any recognition to Selanne.
Promotion rights? What does that mean?
TNSE has back the name 'Winnipeg Jets' including all old logos. There used to be a 'history' section on the Yotes website that ran through important dates for the franchise. They even had a few pics - namely Ulf and Anders with the Avco Cup; Hawerchuk's signing in '81 and the Hull retirement ceremony in '89. That history section is no longer there on the website.
Agree with some of the sentiments above on several levels...
1. Sounds like everything was handled appropriately for Selanne. You have to consider he's still an active player on the opposing team. It would be inappropriate for TNSE to go all out and honor him pre game wearing a Ducks jersey. I don't think Teemu would want it that way either. Give it a year or so and let him come back in a vintage Jets jersey to honor him properly.
2. All the in-game entertainment has always been an annoyment to me. I'm there to watch a hockey game, not play trivia or play with a noise meter or flabbitybloo. give me the game and I'm happy. Wanna do between period junior hockey or fire the tshirt cannon or whatever....that's fine.
3. I'm sure TNSE will find an appropriate way to honor the Jets 1.0, but this season should be focused on Jets 2.0. they'll raise some banners and have Bobby Hull night soon enough. I think they just want to keep attention focused on the current product and building the brand before they do anything else. Now if you're three years down the line and there's no acknowledgement ala Atlanta Spirit's "WTF Flames? ZOMG!" attitude, then I'd start complaining.

#1 is personal preference I guess. Wheeler doesn't ruin my gameday experience at all.
#2 who cares if they give out prizes if the answer is wrong? It's usually not the full prize anyway, but again, my time at the game is not ruined by it.
#3 the players generally choose the warm up music. Blame them for what they play
#4 I don't mind them showing the replay on the screen for penalties against the Jets, goals, etc. Gives fans a closer look at the play
#5 Player introductions like that would take forever to do at every game.
Sounds like someone is complaining for the sake of complaining.
TNSE is clearly not interested in celebrating jets 1.0 for whatever reason....our NHL team skates under bush league AHL banners for goodness sake...if the fans had not forced the name there would be zero recognition of the original jets.
my only explanation is that they are saving that equity for when they need it...miss the playoffs 3 years in a row and then pull out all the old jets stuff.....right now they can bank the equity because they dont need it.
the teemu celebration was awesome because it was spontaneous and fan driven....the lame video was a minimal effort on TNSE's part.
Among the bush league AHL players I had the opportunity to witness as a true hockey fan were Jason Spezza, Anton Volchenkov, Ray Emery, Jakub Voracek, Derek Brassard, Ryan Kesler, Alexander Burrows, Kevin Bieksa, Tanner Glass, Alex Edler, Jannik Hansen, Rick Rypien (RIP), Carey Price, PK Subban, Tomas Plekanec, Andrei Kostistyn (close enough to yell Go Andrei, with a nod, and he did, he scored on the same shift), Mikael Grabvoski, Corey Schneider, and Anti Miettenen...As someone who is neither a lawyer, a dentist, or the Fortunate Son of rich parents, AHL hockey was a chance for me to watch my favourite sport up close and personal, closer than the upper deck seats that I used to buy to watch the old Jets...Everybody has jumped on the Jets bandwagon, whether they are hockey fans or not...Perhaps this is why we talk about the entertainment, and not the hockey...For me the hockey is entertaining enough, especially given the young talent we have been bestowed. The AHL is the roots of hockey, one level higher than Juniors, which is the origins of the original Jets, for those who have forgotten their history.
We owe an enormous amount of gratitude to Mark Chipman for keeping the dream alive, of once again being an elite hockey city...The Moose was an integral part of that foundation, as the principal tenant of TNSE/the MTS Centre. The only drawback I can attest to AHL hockey is that the travel burdens sometimes sapped the games of energy, but that is not the fault of the Moose, rather that of Dave Andrews.
We lost our NHL team in 1996, now we have a new one. Let's celebrate the blessing we have over the holidays, instead of complaining about trifles. Seriously.
I say we all refuse to go to another game until there is a literal army of True North employees marching through the arena with T-shirt guns, pumping everyone in the chest with some useless, but free garment they'll never wear.
Who cares about the amazing hockey going on!!! Give me a free, friggin t-shirt that wouldn't have fit me when I was 7 years old.
Oh and while they're at it, load those guns with those stupid pink pigs again. I want something to throw at the opposing team at the end of the game and make a massive mess of the arena.
I don't understand the hate towards the quiz things, etc. They're done when there is no game going on at all! It's a tv timeout, a break, intermission, etc. You're not missing the game because some guy is trying to figure out which puck the dufresne logo is under.
More entertainment is never a bad thing.
After the last game I think I'd like a contest where they put up player faces on the scoreboard and see if people can booo or yayyy to the right ones.
TNSE should realize that the Jets1.0 is the only reason why WPG is in the NHL not the Moose.
I still can't believe on opening night they did nothing. No banners, No intros, No mentioning of anything original Jets.
I don't really care about the music, that's all part of the in-game entertainment.
But I do care about traditional quality. The Jets engine sound is great touch!
The goal song is dumb - bring back 'JUMP' I still can't believe they ignore that. Bring back Danger Zone for the intros.
I still don't understand why TNSE just doesn't do these things from the beginning and then make changes. Do you think anyone would really complain if 'JUMP' was played, or if they know how to do a pre-game ceromony.
What's funny is that the Jets 1.0 had many pre-game ceromines at centre ice.
TNSE needs to learn about honoring and tradition from teams like Toronto, Montreal, NYR, Chicago.
Wheeler's not afraid to take and share strong opinions and tends to thrive on spurring debates, but calling him a "huge *******" about anything is misreading him, IMO. He's a solid guy, and one of the hardest-working guys out there -- which is why he's had success and has gotten the jobs he has. Not "simply because of connections."
and honoring Selanne on Saturday came all from the fans. The sound system was so poor you couldn't even hear the announcer. And don't tell me it's because it was loud inside.
Obviously this is a fan driven organization because anything the fans expect TNSE should deliver. Why? cause TNSE doesn't know how to do things on their own.
If it wasn't for the fans.
Ladies and gentlemen here come your Manitoba Moose
I can't believe this thread made it to two pages. Well, since it did, here is my contribution:
1. I don't like the colour of the seats being green. Green is calming, they should change them to aqua blue.
2. You're totally right about the Moose stuff, it has no significance whatsoever. Perhaps we should hang jerseys honoring Heatley, Kovalchuk and Stefan?
3. I find the washrooms too boring. They need disco balls and glitter on the walls. I can't stand spending that two minutes not being entertained.
Sorry, but I really can't believe only 32 games in to our first NHL season in 15 years, people are complaining about in game entertainment. yikes
Oh, and for the record. I'm part of a season ticket group and I have had a blast every time I've set foot in the MTS Centre. True North is doing just fine.
