Columbus marked 10 straight games scoring two or fewer goals. Is this a league record? Is there a record for stuff like this?

I'm trying to figure out if losing back to back games to goalies getting their first NHL start is a record ... can't keep up with all this futility

I can't find out whether or not it's a league record, but 10 straight 2 or fewer goal games is a franchise record.

Haha, what if we won in a shootout with the final score of "3"-2? Does that snap the streak or does it have an asterisk?

I would be surprised if it's a league-wide record. 2-1 games were the norm not that long ago.

Agreed. Post-expansion, it's unlikely thats a record, and it's not too hard to picture a Bruins, Hawks or Rangers team of the 40's-50's putting together something worse in terms of lack of scoring streaks.

They could be the teams that have a longer streak I agree, but we aren't that much better than them actually.

The record for fewest goals by a team in a season is the 53-54 Blackhawks, who had 133 goals in 70 games. If you extrapolate that over an 82 game season, that's 156 goals. We are on pace to score 177 goals. If you add in the fact we have 15 goals in our last 10 games, if that pace were to continue for the remaining 51 games of the season (extremely unlikely I know) we'd finish the season with 144 goals.

Frankly, if this streak continues a few more games, it has to be close to a elague record, if not an actual league record for most consecutive games with two or fewer goals per game.

Edit: The Lightning scored just 151 goals in 82 games in 97-98 which would likely be the worst of all-time in terms of goals per game. The Atlanta Thrashers in 99-2000 (expansion year) scorede 170 goals, and the Wild the next year (also expansion year) scored just 168 goals) also below our current pace. The 2001-2002 Blue Jackets (164 goals) and Ducks (175) 2002-2003 Panthers (176) and Hurricanes (171) and 2003-2004 Hurricanes (172) also finished with fewer goals than what we are on pace for currently of all the teams that played between 1980and the lockout.

Since the lockout the worst goal total was the New Jersey Devils with 174 goals last year.

12 games and counting. Be interesting to see if there really is a record for this or not.
