Something that doesn't match exactly is needed. If the pads are just a solid team color, or something close to that, the player looks like a giant blob on the ice.

Line and contrast are incredibly important in design of any sort, and if there is none, it's a mess. Designs need to coordinate, not match. Imagine if every article of clothing you wore matched exactly. Red pants. Red jacket. Red shirt. Red shoes. You'd look laughable. Now introduce some contrasts in there that allow the individual pieces to compliment each other: blue jeans, red sneakers, red windbreaker, white tee shirt. Yes, you're following a theme, but there are contrasts that allow each piece to be appreciated as part of a larger ensemble.

Someone should make pads of Avery's face so people will just shoot pucks at em.

White pads are said to be harder to pick up when the player looks up to try and find open net to shoot at. Bright pads or black pads are said to be easier to spot which makes it easier for the shooter to tell where the goalies pads are which helps the find open net.

While dark pads might get you quicker whistles white pads will stop the puck more often.

I highly doubt that any manufacturer other than Reebok would ever deny doing a custom graphic for an NHL goalie, that is if they have the ability to do it. Over the next month or so watch how much free advertising these pads get Brian's.

How is this relevant? At least say what model of Velocity's you like.

Oh and i'm not sure how you can say that custom pads have finally reached the NHL. They have been around in the NHL for a long time.

I think the OP meant Chris Mason' Brian's Custom pads are in the NHL now.

OT: Those are some sick pads to go along with a sick mask. Chris Mason will live on as one of my all-time favourite players from hence forth.

Thats cool, hopefully it becomes a trend like customizing the mask. Doesn't even have to be the team logo.

Someone should put an optical illusion on a set of pads to distract the shooters!

I'd be curious to see what kinda contracts the Vaughn/RBK/Bauer guys sign as they all seem stock. I believe the advertising they are really after is that they want you to believe you are buying the same pad as your favorite star goalie when you grab yourself or kid that "Senior" level pad/glove off the shelf. Which would also explain why whenever the odd guy does go custom it never seems to be a big name, at least as far as I am recalling for recent times.
