Buffalo Sabres at Ottawa Senators 7:30 PM

uhhh...I'm not even going to take a guess. Would a mod edit lines in as they become more clear?

Injuries:
Boyes
Kaleta
Gerbe
Hecht
Leino
Ennis
Vanek (?)
Tropp
Stuart
Myers

Recalls:
Szczechura
Kassian
Foligno
Whitmore
McNabb

I'd guess Miller gets the start tonight.

Per a thread on the Sens board, these were the lines in practice Monday:

Greening - Spezza - Alfredsson
Foligno - Turris - Condra
Smith - Regin - Neil
Daugauvins - Konopka - Winchester
Butler

Cowen - Karlsson
Philips - Carkner
Kuba - Gonchar
Lee

Anderson
Auld

Standings:

6. New Jersey 18-13-1 37pts 32GP 11ROW
7. Toronto 16-13-7 36pts 33GP 13ROW
8. Buffalo 16-13-3 35pts 32GP 14ROW
---------------
9. Winnipeg 15-13-4 34pts 32GP 14ROW
10. Ottawa 15-14-4 34pts 33GP 12ROW
11. Washington 16-14-1 33pts 31GP 15ROW
12. Montreal 13-14-7 33pts 34GP 12ROW

Records last 10:
Sabres 4-4-2
Senators 4-4-2

Season series:
Sabres 2-0-1
Senators 1-1-1

Quote:
Buffalo would like to leave Saturday's season-worst 8-3 loss at Pittsburgh in the rear-view mirror as it looks to remain in the top eight of the Eastern Conference standings.
Quote:
December has been marked by inconsistency for Ottawa as it is just 3-4-2 overall and 2-3-0 at home this month.

Both teams coming off of games against Pittsburgh, although with dramatically different outcomes. Ottawa pulled off a 6-4 victory on Friday, and the Sabres were drubbed 8-3 on Saturday night.

And now for something a little bit more optimistic, a few videos from our past matches with the Senators.

Let's go Buffalo!

Gotta assume Vanek mans up and plays he knows how bad this team is struggling...

vanek-chewy-poms
stafford-roy-Whitmore?
kassian-adam-foligno (hopeful wishing)
McCormick-Goose-Ellis

would love grags scratched but the d will be the usual suspects

anyone more familiar with whitmore's game care to enlighten me? I admit that my guilty pleasure is watching/attending amerks games solely to watch the players that interest me(foligno, kassian, mcnabb etc) and also to enjoy the great friday night drink specials(formerly dollar beer n hotdog night) which ultimately leads to me not paying attention to all players onboard...

anyways I digress, whitmores game anyone?

Vanek will play and will dominate. Miller will have a strong game too. 2 points. That's all that matters.

From what I know... not exceptionally talented, but certainly not a grinder - in the AHL, at least. Hard working, great character player. Has some speed... mostly a garbage collector, but uses that speed to his advantage at times. Not an NHL player, but good enough to play a few games as a callup now and then.

Anybody else notice that our offense is exactly 50% rookie? Also, if sombody else gets hurt, who is left to recall at this point?

I only count 3 (Foligno, Adam, Kassian). Well 4 if you include Whitmore, but I think because of age he isn't Calder-eligible.

Szczechura is not a rookie by any definition because of his time spent in Tampa Bay before coming here. And I'm not sure who you'd be considering the 6th rookie.

However, if you are insinuating that Roy/Stafford are playing like rookies, then you have a point.

He plays hard, has a good scoring touch and does the "little things" well.

Not sure how that will transfer to the NHL but he has been the top Amerks forward all season.

Rookies/AHLers then?

Kassian,Szczechura, Foligno, Adam,Whitmore, Ellis. There's your six. Or seven if Gragnani plays forward tonight.

For those who haven't seen it, Whitmore's 4 goal night from about a month ago:

The first two came in the first two minutes of the game.

Too bad we don't still have the Tocchet game, or I'd be going all-in on "A Sabre gets injured" today

I normally like to make pie in the sky guesses as to hockey game outcomes, but I'm really unsure about this one. So many variables.

To answer your question honestly, only Turnbull and Lagace are legitimate recall options. We've really reached rock bottom if Sydlowski, Boychuk, or Parker play a game with the Sabres this year.

I've really excited for this game. It will be cool to see Foligno vs. Foligno. Looking forward to seeing Whitmore. Excited to see Turris play and see how he blends in there (assuming he's playing tonight). Plus I just always look forward to Ottawa games.

I expect Miller to have a good bounce back game.

4-1 good guys (Foligno - that's right, I said it, Vanek, Ehrhoff, Kassian)

5-1 Sens

Roy breaks the shutout in the 3rd period after the score is 4-0. Sens score with about 7 minutes left to make it 5-1.

Sabres PP goes 0-6 and Gragnani will directly cause a turnover leading to a shorthanded goal. For maximum amount of boo birds, this will happen in the first period for the Sens 2nd or 3rd goal.

Time to break out the paper bags, folks
