I don't know whether to or ... But in all honesty, I mostly just don't care anymore.
Same here. Last night I thought coming back with Schneider was probably a good idea, now I'm not sure...I think you go with Luongo for one more game and hope the team can rally for him...if they lose, go with Schneider for game 4. Right now goaltending isn't an issue, but the team needs a spark from somewhere...i don't care where it comes from but it needs to show up quickly.
Goaltending is *not* the issue. Luongo has played well enough to get us the win in both games so far. The team, however, has not.
Even with that said, and me being a huge Luongo fan, we start Schneider in net for Game 3. The team needs a slap in the face and I think that would accomplish that.
Give Schneider game 3 and play him until he loses. At that point, go back to Luongo and let him close out the series (for better or worse).
This isn't about punishing either goalie, they are both capable of playing at an incredibly high level and Luongo's play has been commendable so far, it's about trying to get the team to remember how to not allow 2 SH goals while going 0-5.
Uh, my point is if Quick didn't stop his "big saves" we would have won 12-4. Get it? That's why we have such wonderful stats like SV% which, while they don't measure the quality of shots over time give a reasonable indication of performance (especially between goalies on the same team). Luongo doesn't make any more big saves than the average NHL playoff goalie. He used to, but not anymore, not with any consistency at least. Odds of him outperforming the opposing goalie are about 50-50, which isn't great for an elite goalie with the kind of contract he has.
Name me one team whose backup has outperformed the starter two years running and won't get an opportunity to carry it over into the playoffs. Montreal? Nope.
Again, I've said from the start that Luongo is not the main problem and he was fantastic in Game 1. But this is a Luongo thread and no objective person would say he had a great game tonight. Schneider will likely get the start for Game 3 for obvious reasons.
Your blind love for him is amazing, though also rather creepy and pathetic.
You are in real real desperate need of taking some time to watch a bunch of hockey that doesnt include the vancouver canucks, and realize what the average goalie in the nhl is like. If luongo lets in the hansen tip in like quick did I guarentee you would be all over him, Luongo is far from the problem going on here and infact hes probably the only reason we havnt been completely embaressed so far in this series.
However I do understand the validity in the argument for starting schnieder in game 3, but it has to do with shaking things up and maybe forcing la to tweak thier strategy a bit, corey has without a doubt earned a start but hes not getting it because of a poor luongo performace which IS what you are indicating.
If they start Schneider after Luongo was the only guy to give an effort, I think Luongo has played his last game in Vancouver. I also think that's what Gillis and AV probably want moving forward, so it would be a win-win for the franchise, I guess.
I think it's unfortunate, but I also think AV has always had Luongo as his own personal scapegoat (he sure doesn't defend him like most coaches with a HOF goalie would) for his inability to get this team where it needs to be.
Luongo hasn't been the problem but the second half of that game scares me. When he starts lunging at pucks and ending up on his belly, that's when the wheels fall off for him. There was a lot of that in the second half of that game.

He was playing desperate because the team in front of him was playing like garbage.
