I live in Calgary, follow the Flames, and have attended games.

And there's nothing wrong with Kolanos - I'm sure he's a really great guy. But that doesn't mean you give him a roster spot that should go to a younger player.

BTW - If Feaster isn't in rebuild mode then maybe he's the one who should be following the Flames.

And that's why you trade a veteran like Morrison for a prospect like Connelly?

The key words here are "leader for the youngsters". That is better done with the Heat. How many youngsters are with the old farts up here in Calgary? And why can't the reward be a coaching position?

Then if you follow the Flames, did you not at all hear what Feaster said? He's rewarding players based on merit.

Kolanos has played well for Abbotsford and earned his shot - especially for an NHL team that is deprived of offensive skill like the type Kolanos has.

Just because someone is younger does not make them better.

Yeah, we traded a minor-league defenseman for an NHL player who took Morrison's spot - Blair Jones. Jones is playing much more effectively than Brendan ever did this season. Plus, he's cheaper, giving up some more flexibility coming up to the deadline.

Coaching at 30??? He is showing the youngsters that if you work hard you will be rewarded and they now have a chance to play a big role on the ahl playoff push. How many people develop on the 4th line vs top 6 in the ahl.

Why not? It's the AHL and the players are younger. Or better yet, let him start in the E.

I also heard Feaster guarantee a playoff spot. I hear lots of things and can respond accordingly. And rewarding players like Kolanos with coaching jobs is consistent with Feaster's promise.

Blair Jones is 24. These are all rebuilding moves. On a team where the GM says he's going for it.

Until he signs a 30 year old minor leaguer.

Now it's just weird mixed messages from a guy taking his team in opposite directions.

I never knew that a minor league signing could cause such controversy.

A two-way contract for a minor league player? Jesus, Mike. Relax.

30 isn't old. Just ask Teemu Selanne or Nik Lidstrom.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're spouting off on something that isn't an issue.

or maybe you don't understand its a depth signing of a minor leaguer? the guy has been the Heats best forward and is the only player putting up decent offensive numbers, he earned this.

if you follow the Flames like you claim, you would know its ownership saying not to do a scorched earth rebuild. Pay more attention and you would understand

I remember when Kolanos was with the Wild - the guy works hard for his chance to play in NHL. Glad he is getting another crack at it.

Kolanos looked like he was going to develop into a top 6 player before that hit by Varada back in 2002. Still has one of the most memorable penalty shots in NHL history against Patty Roy.

Why would I joke about this? Rewarding a guy with a long term commitment (Compared to a 2-year contract anyway) like a coaching job in the organization seems like a good idea to me.

I'm not disagreeing. But I am saying that if your best, most NHL ready prospect is 30 then you're heading in a certain direction whether you want to admit it or not.

I wish Kolanos all the best - It's his bosses I'm wondering about...

'nuff said.

I am relaxed. This is oddly cathartic.

And in my business small signs (Like a small blip on a piece of paper) can lead to horrific results.

Fans should pay attention to the simple things - that way they're not blindsided.

Again, 'nuff said.

Who says Kolanos wants to retire at 30, while top-10 in AHL scoring having played at least 7 fewer games than anyone else in the top-10? That's absurd.

That special gift looked threatened two years ago in Adirondack when the hip flared up to the point that surgery became the only option.

For the first three months, he limped around on crutches near his home in Scottsdale, Ariz. The rehab took nearly two years.

"I have such a passion and love for the game.

"There's something inside me burning that has kept me going through all of this. I still feel like I can contribute and make a difference out there.

"I think it boils down to my love for the game and knowing if I did stay with it, I would get another chance."

You're telling me this guy is going to just pack it in and start coaching?

I don't see the big deal around Kolanos coming up. The Flames have a bunch of injured forwards (Glencross, Stempniak, Moss). Kolanos is their best forward in Abbotsford. So they called him up. End of story.

The Flames aren't going to make some desperation move to try and make the playoffs when they're in the position they're in. Some will point to Cammie-Bourque but that was pretty much an exchange of headaches.

Pens fan. Just saw this.

These are the types of contracts that can make a team cap-wise. Going minimum salary on fourth-liners and third-liners is huge. And Vitale earned his NHL contract, for sure.

I love HF.

1. Post news about the Flames
2. Read posts like "zomg get younger! rebuild!"
3. Sit back and lol at the utter lack of knowledge of people who post the statements in #2.

Kolanos is a depth signing. Nothing more. With a moderately healthy roster, he probably doesn't even get to eat popcorn in the press box.
