Beer League Championship

In my first time in 4 hockey seasons (4 ice in the last two years since we were created), my team will be playing in the Championship. I have only played 6 total seasons and it'll be my first Championship as well. It'll be a fun game bc both teams do not like each other at all, this is the first playoff game against this team and the normal games usually end up 1-0, 3-2, 3-0, 2-1, etc. They are usually chippy and even more chippy at that.

What is your favorite Championship memory? Did it mean anything?
How'd you do?

The most fun for me was a rec level intermural team I played with a bunch of friends. The hockey was horrible, but it was so much fun. We 3-peated (still reigning champs). There were only about 3 of us on the team that could actually play, and being on the ice and scoring with 0.5 seconds left on the clock to send us to the championship game, then scoring 2 with a helper in the Champ game was great. But the best part was being with 15 friends and winning. Nothing beats that.

Good luck!

Savor it while you can. My team made it to the championship game and lost three years in a row (there are 20-30 teams). Then we made it to the semi-finals and lost. This year we probably won't make the playoffs unless we're lucky.

I've won about 12 beer league championships including Vegas tournaments on 4 different teams. Been kind of lucky that way.

A few of the teams i've played on have gone to the championship round, I'm 1 -2 (our league is fairly small). The best game was one we lost but both teams sat in the locker room after the game and got hammered. I amuse easily.

I love playing in those games...great intensity and it always feels good to win.

I play in a 10 team Draft league, so every year you play with a slightly different group, but you get to know everyone fairly well.

So winning and going to the league banquet afterwards (we are sponsored by a large brewing company) is so much fun.

This past year my team had won the winter and summer leagues, we hired a bagpiper (paid him in beer...which was free anyways) to pipe us in, then we proceded to good-naturedly chirp the team we beat and all the other teams who couldn't step up to the big dogs.

Favorite? No idea. Won a couple in my youth and now play in adult leagues at a couple different rinks. I think these are better because I'm playing with/against people who almost half my age and I'm able to keep up with them. Not bad considering all the time off I'd taken. I'm no longer the threat I was as a kid but I'm still solid and seem to get things done when it's needed most.

We just won our 3rd championship in a row this year, making good for spring, summer, and fall. Our 2nd fall league playoffs start tomorrow, we'll have to win 3 games to take it. Number of teams varies between 4-12 depending on the division we're in (the lesser teams the stronger the competition, usually, as with the fall league)

My production in those finals games:

spring: 1g/1a, final score 3-2. 1st in team in points, led playoff scoring for league
summer: GWG, final score 3-2. 4th in team points
fall: GWG/1a, final score 4-3. 2nd overall in team points

This past summer, both the semi final and the final came down to shoot out.
The semi final even went to extra shooters.
That was a lot fun and really exciting...and yes... we won

I wouldn't mind that at all. It's $1100-1200US a team so depending how many we officially roster the buy-in price varies. What are you guys paying for 36 games worth?

Leagues here are like 26 games.

I just wished more people cared. I guess I'm a tad bit competitive, but no one really cares after we win it so it's meh. However, that was mostly the older guys. We're all 20+ so the younger ones had some excitement.

I pay $550 for a 26 + playoff league (+80 for a jersey from the Love Guru, Authentic NHL Jersey, and socks)

It makes sense to have shorter seasons, that way each season isn't such a big time commitment. This is especially relevant as many of the people that used to play for my team have had to move around the country for work. Let me clarify that by time commitment I mean that it is much easier to commit to playing September to December than September to April.

Drove all the way up from Long Island to Montreal for a tourney. In the championship game, we wound up facing a team from just across the sound in CT. We could have saved a lot of mileage and just stayed home.

Take it as advice rather than a memory, but I remember telling my teammates, "There is no tomorrow" in the lockerroom. It was game 3 of a best of 3 series. You're not playing for next game or, "We'll get them next time". This is it.

Skate until you're dead because you're not playing tomorrow.
