Looks more like Brodziak's hit on Kopitar than McLeod's on Spurgeon. Seemed more from the side than behind.

Which hit? The Carcillo hit? Gilbert doesn't even get sideways (shoulder to shoulder) until he is airborne. No one's feet left the ice in the Brodziak hit on Kopitar. I didn't think Kopitar tried to sell it, but there were a few Kings fans that thought he did...

/shrug

Although, I was sort of shocked that Shanahan didn't suspend Brodziak on that one. I would have fined him to start the clock ticking on repeatoffenderness.

Then again, I wouldn't have considered Sutton a repeat offender on his first suspension this year.

I'm a "by the books" sort of a guy.

So, how many games for this repeat offender who was suspended less than 1 month ago?

Look at what he said...

Quote:
"I just felt like I was stuck in the boards, and even though it looked like I was holding him, I couldn't really move because my arm was on the other side of him," Bourque said. "But, yeah, it's a back-breaker. They scored right away in the first minute, and ... I take a stupid penalty."

Bourque was more nebulous about his hit on Backstrom. Bourque was suspended two games last month for a hit on Brent Seabrook of the Chicago Blackhawks, and this one could lead to more time off the ice.

"Did it look really bad? Was he hurt? I didn't even know if I clipped him," Bourque said. "I didn't even know if I hit him in the head."

That doesn't change the fact that Shanny will have trouble explaining why Carcillo got suspended and McLeod didn't.
Because Carcillo is a repeat offender?

And McLeod can never become a repeat offender because he hasn't been suspended, and he can't get suspended because he's not a repeat offender.

Got it! Makes perfect sense.

I.. I don't get it?

Yes, McLeod can be suspended even if he isn't a repeat offender. His hit just wasn't as bad as Carcillo's one... Unlike the McLeod hit, the player's skates left the ice which made it look worse.

Anyways, I think Carcillo will get between 4 and 10 games.

Look worse or be worse? One is a horrible excuse and example of Shanahan's complete failure, while the other is a borderline excuse.

Look worse.

Gilbert's injury is not as bad as some people expected just like Spurgeon's case.

The Panthers have signed John Madden to a 1 year contract.

He will wear #10.

So everyone gets to run one player from behind once for free. But if you get your stick lifted, you get two games.

The purpose of suspensions is to make players be cautious of what they're doing. That is not happening.

I say it again, there are three simple things to do to fix suspensions:

- Make a minimum of 5 games and 5 game increments. No more 1, 2, 3. There are too many games for 1-2 game suspensions to be effective.

- Remove the player from the team during the time of suspension. That's a big disincentive even if money is not. 5 game suspension means you're not allowed near the team or facility for 10+ days.

- Fine the team severely if team suspensions are greater than a certain number, like 10 or 15 games. And if they are over 20 or 25, hit them with draft picks. Teams won't employ those players anymore.

I don't necessarily agree or disagree, but the biggest obstacle to minimum sentencing is cowardice on the part of the judge. If there's a minimum sentence of 5 games, whomever replaces Shanahan will have the issue of "well that hit was bad, but was it really 5 games bad? Maybe we should let it slide." The harsher you make the minimum punishment, the worse hits have to be before punishment is doled out.

well the league cowardice is causing issues, too many good players are being hurt which hurts the on ice product when Crosby came back ESPN had something positive to say about hockey now he's out again, the two hits that got him concussed were cheap as ****.

if i was a team owner i would be putting big time pressure on NHL to get rid of head hits and to clean the game up, i'm all for a fighting but this cheap **** from guys who are total ****ing *******s needs to stop its hurting the game, we all love watching good players play and fans are being robbed of that.

shannaban and nhl need to grow a pair and start being serious.

Bourque gets 5 games for the hit on Backstrom.

So, no Bourque on Saturday night.

Don't you have NHL Center Ice?

Just switch to the Jets game. That's what I'm watching.

I would have just went with "NBC Sports" but whatever. It will get more brand recognition (not with me, Imma just call it Versus forever) than Versus, and its obvious that Comcast is going into "**** ESPN" mode. Fully expect them to buy several of ESPN's properties when they come up for renewal.
