Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Athletics are "moving closer" to trading left-hander Gio Gonzalez. Olney hears that the bidding is down to two teams and confirms that the Nationals are one of them. He speculates that the Red Sox or Marlins could be the other.
According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals intensified talks with Carlos Beltran's agent late Wednesday night and into Thursday morning. In fact, one source told Goold that the Cards are the "leading candidate" to sign him.
Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that Seth Smith is drawing trade interest from the Mariners, Athletics, Braves, Mets, and Rays.
Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com writes that the Yankees are unlikely to sign Hiroki Kuroda unless they can unload some payroll.

So is Edwin Jackson retiring or something? It seems like there hasn't been any talk of who is interested in him. Last update on rotoworld was November 8th.

Little to no action on Oswalt aswell. Teams are possibly waiting, and only signing them as a last resort. That being said, Oswalt isn't a bad pickup for any team. Heard he's asking for 2-3 yrs.
should we have a separate thread for the fantastically retarded articles that are written this time of year where the guys who actually vote for the hall of fame embarrass themselves?
ron chimelis is the latest guy to look like an ass. for this quote:
Quote:
My first instinct was to vote for Raines, who ranks fifth all-time in steals with 808. Unlike saves, steals have been been meaningful for 140 years. Raines had six straight 70-steal seasons … But if Raines gets in because he is fifth in steals, what about Vince Coleman, who is sixth? That’s why I talked myself out of it.”
get that? he talked himself out of tim raines because tim raines is better than vince coleman...but vince coleman stole a lot of bases. tim raines reached base 3979 times. vince coleman 1917 times. tim raines is 82nd all-time in war. coleman isn't in the top 1000. they're not comparable. but raines is somehow being penalized because coleman stole bases (and did nothing else). it's ****ing insane.

This is like not voting for Alex Rodriguez because he is only one spot above Fernando Vina on the all time HBP list.

I don't remember where I heard it, but apparently Berkman has been trying to recruit Oswalt for the Cardinals, but I think that would depend upon the Cardinals' ability to trade Westbrook, which I think is unlikely at best right now, unless it's a trade to a team who feels that they would be unable to sign Jackson or Oswalt.
According to David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com, trade talks for Matt Garza are "heating up."
Kaplan hears that the Red Sox, Yankees and Blue Jays are all involved.
today's hall of fame retard is barry bloom of mlb.com, who compares jeff bagwell to steve garvey.
Quote:
And just a note on Jeff Bagwell: Rumors about possible steroid use don’t bother me. I just think he’s a very good player, but not of Hall of Fame caliber. His numbers are very similar to Steve Garvey — Bags .297 batting average to .294 for the Garv, 2,314 hits to 2,599, 449 homers to 272, 1,529 RBIs to 1,308 . But Garvey had two NL Championship Series MVPs, an NL MVP, an All-Star MVP, the longest consecutive game playing streak in NL history (1,207), one of the highest fielding percentages as a first baseman (.996) and an errorless season (1984). Garvey also played on five NL pennant winners and a World Series winner in ’81 with the Dodgers. Bagwell did almost none of this with the Astros. And Garvey didn’t get a sniff from the writers for the HOF.
maybe this is oversimplifying things a bit:
bagwell career ops: .948
garvey career ops: .775
shut your face, barry bloom.
oh, what's that? there's more?
bagwell career obp: .408. 40th all-time.
garvey career obp: .329. not in the top 1000 all-time, worse than scott podsednik.

these articles will continue.
Jeff bagwell is the 2nd best first baseman of the last 40 years, and at the time of his retirement was probably the best. Such a joke that he's so disrespected.
tim kawikami voted for dale murphy, citing the fact that murphy was the best player in baseball from 1980-1987.
when mike schmidt was playing. and rickey henderson. and tim raines. and eddie murray.
also, he failed to count properly when he claimed murphy had the "most hr's in the 80's" which is false, unless 308>313, mike schmidt did. and that he had the "most rbi's too" which is also false since eddie murray had 996 and murphy had 929 (schmidt had 929 as well).
these are the people deciding on who gets into the hall of fame. people who can't count.
