You know, I think I proposed exactly this realignment scheme after it was announced that Winnipeg was moving, except I kept them in two conferences and moved Detroit east.

He tried to get away, made it worse. Got essentially 3 games. I think that's fine.

Hm. Not quite, but I proposed something pretty close.

Maintains all the major divisional rivalries (except DET/CHI, which has no chance), breaks the divisions such that no division straddles more than two time zones, and gets all the EST time zone teams into the East.
The two eastern divisions are the same as mine, except CLB and DET move to the central and COL moves to the Pacific to balance. I was aiming to maintain the time zones, but I guess for travel this makes more sense. I kinda wonder why Columbus didn't get incorporated into Division D though.

If that's a star player for the Preds there's no way he gets 2 games

So whats going on with the realignment? Did something happen? Didn't feel like sifting through 20 pages.

Four conference realignment. Four teams from each conference make the playoffs. Every team plays every other team at least twice.

Conference A: Anaheim, Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Jose, Vancouver
Conference B: Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Minnesota, Nashville, St. Louis, Winnipeg
Conference C; Boston, Buffalo, Florida, Montreal, Ottawa, Tampa Bay, Toronto
Conference D: Devils, Islanders, Rangers, Carolina, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington.

How do you guys think this will affect our home attendance? Having strong, league-sweetheart teams in our building more often than a CBJ or FLA might help us out, no?

Florida will benefit from this change too.

In terms of attendance, maybe. But FLA and TBL just became the two teams in the league with the worst travel arrangements.

Not saying otherwise. I actually believe they both voted NO despite the pros.

Four teams voted no, and I wouldn't be surprised if all four came from the SE.

Probably negatively, since you still have the same number of Rangers, Flyers and Pens games but take away games against other conference and local games (Bruins, Sabres) for some random West team.

Listening to NHL Home Ice this morning and a caller brought up a great point. Sorry if it's been touched on already. But, he stated that since a Bruins vs. Habs game will no longer have any effect on playoff seeding/standings for his team (NYR), he then has no vested interest to root for either or follow other games much at all. This certainly kind of miffs me.

This is a very good point. It almost feels like the MLB, but where half the games are inter-league play.

This system also makes team movement and expansion/contraction much less complicated.

This is a great point. There is a lot less interest in what is going on in the rest of the league since it doesn't have an effect on making the playoffs.

I do have to say that the playoffs in our conference are going to be bloodbaths.

You know, it might be more interesting to have the top-3 teams from each conference make the playoffs, then have four league-wide wild card spots. That way everyone has to worry about everyone else.

Changes nothing for me. Can`t speak for others though.

Yeah, our division will be fun. But, I wonder how national broadcasts will reflect interest in these games now. There really isn't much reason to follow outer-division teams until the second round of the playoffs.

I have a feeling this is a 'tip-of-the-iceberg move. They set up the conferences with opportunity for expansion/relocation. Will also be interesting to see the effect this has on player trades, being that you realistically only need to worry about your conference (to an extent).

I don't see an effect on trades. It is pretty much the same as now, that no one wants to trade in division.
