Kuba, by example, as an expiring contract will get serious looks from teams needing his skills to slot into their rotation. Same with Lee. I think Gonchar is safe unless the return was high and Gonchar wished to move. Unless the offer is what Murray wants, he'll wait.

Other teams like Nashville would be hurting themselves to move a Suter/Weber at this opint, so the return would be overpayment.

Getting someone else's 4/5/6 guys will not really help the rebuild either.

Columbus will be able to draft high this year and there are stud defencemen all over the top of the draft. And if you do move Nash/Carter you'll have more than one shot at them. Might get a pair in the first two rounds, plus a forward.
I think Rundblad's trade is going to keep Lee here for quite awhile.

I tend to agree.

Kuba is interesting as he's having a good year. He might get a 2nd back in February.

I think he's definitely a lock for a 2nd if his play continues and he remains healthy.

Carkner, don't hold me to this, but he could get a really decent return from a team like the Flyers.

IF they want to keep Carkner as the 7 spot I think he'd accept that. He knows his role. And he brings a good teaching presence to the younger guys (he worked with Borowiecki in Binghamton) about positioning to use the strength.

I do not see him as an everyday guy, unless through injury, but I do like his toughness. Guess it all will work out in a few weeks.

Phillips, Karlsson, Cowen, Borowiecki are going nowhere. The rest will shake out. And if the right guy is there, I could see us draft a D with our first, especially if we get a second first (not sure how that happens after we dealt Rundblad)

If the Sens are outof the playoffs heading into the deadline, any J-Bo takers?

Maybe something like: Foligno, Butler and Kuba for J-Bo and a 3rd at the deadline.

We've got the necessary cap space to take on the remaining 2 years of his contract at cap hit of 6.68M (plus Gonchar 5.5M cap hit comes off after 2012-13...and Alfie's 4.875M too )

Post deadline D

Cowen - Karlsson
J-Bo - Lee
Phillips - Gonchar
Carkner

2012-13 forwards

9MM - Spezza - Z-Bad
Filatov - Turris - Alfie
Silfverberg - Smith - Condra
Greening - XXX - Neil

Thoughts?

FYI, I still believe in J-Bo and I don't really like Foligno.
Gomez sucks.

Trolling Tuna? Selanne is done, he's 41 and retiring this year and we've never got a player in the last 11 years from the 4th round that succeeded why would we trade a highly thought of goalie prospect as well as our only goalie prospect for a retireing goal scorer and a lump of ********.

I'm sitting here trying to fathom what the reasoning is behind this.

1. We're in the midst of a rebuild, we need our young players.
2. Selanne will be here for 1 year, he won't play past 41 if he's anywhere but California.
3. Lehner is our only goalie prospect.
4. Selanne and Alfie are veteran right-wingers, neither will be forced out of position so they can play together on the second line. There will be no Turris, Alfie, Selanne.
5. Why in God's name are we adding a 4th rounder?

Gomez sucks.
I want Jay-Bo only if I'm not giving up anything substantial. Which means a deal likely doesn't get done. The extra 2 million he's currently overpaid by takes out about that much value from the return I'd want to part with. But yes, I do think his production would greatly improve within Maclean's system.

Check the standings. Kuba may be worth a 2nd rounder but if we trade him away we will not be a playoff team. While I don't think we'll be buyers at the deadline, we may just hold on to our UFAs to see if we can make the POs. I'd rather see the team make the POs than have one more pick in the 45-60 range.

No. He's a gutless complimentary player who makes $7M.

I loved what Potvin had to say about him, you don't get 7 mil to shut-down people you also need to bring offense. Could tell he didn't like him that much in Florida

He's an overpaid complimentary trade asset who doesn't appear to want to leave Calgary. So sad.

He will return a lot more then a 2nd... he is a PPG player on an expiring deal.

What do you think Daniel Alfredsson would return? That is around the same value Selanne probably has to contending teams.

That's kind of what Cup contending teams look for.

Sure but you don't see cup contending team give up alot they may give up high picks or mid level prospects and or current roster players but no cup contenders would sell the farm.

Who would you say has more talent and trade value? Tomas Kaberle or Teemu Selanne?

I would think the answer is quite obvious...

Nobody will sell the farm for rental players anymore. But if Kaberle can fetch a 1st round pick +, I don't see why Selanne couldn't do the same.

based on the odds, we are not going to make the playoffs:

http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL/E...st/Ottawa.html

So, i suspect we'd trade Kuba, and lets just say to Boston... as Boston would
have the cap space for him, what would Boston be willing to give up for him?

If we can win a few of these 4pt games coming up against WIN, NJD, etc. then our odds will go up dramatically. 1/3 chance isn't so bad when you consider the number of teams vying for the final 3 spots.
