Holy ****ing ****. This thread just made me laugh.

We were out of the playoff picture with Martin. Martin was sitting Leblanc after scoring his first goal. Emelin was on the bench. Price was getting no support and we were blowing leads like a cheap street walker on a Saturday night.

And people miss that mediocrity?

Hell no. Habs hockey sucks right now but it is exposing Gauthier for what he is........incompetent.

Let me laugh some more.

I don't think he was a great coach on a great team, but I think he is the kind of coach that can make a ****** team look good.

What I think we're finding out is we're not really as good as we'd thought.

Oh well.

What now? Molson created the language controversy?

The idiotic move was to replace him by someone who was already behind the bench in these difficult times. Way to bring a breath of fresh air. It was bound to fail.

Any team playing Blunden Nokia and Darche this much is going to look bad. Especially while scratching your good players.

You could very well be right.

But that doesn't change anything about the firing though because we ain't doing any of those things under Cunneyworth.

I'm pretty sure we would've still been on this losing streak even if JM hadn't been fired. The team was headed downwards and the firing of JM just pushed it over the edge faster than anticipated. Usually a coach is fired when the team hits rock bottom. Problem here is that they hadn't hit rock bottom yet with JM but it was definitely headed in that direction. The players were no longer responding to him and his system wasn't working. They need to get whatever it is out of their system before they can get back on the right track.

I am going sit back and get me a cold beverage and watch this thread explode with the Martin apologists.

Its going to be epic.

**** Martin. Lets dig deeper and get Carbonneau back if we want to relive great non-Cup winning times.

It is official. Panic sets in.

Does anyone actually think we would be playing that much better with Martin? At least now we'll fail for a good draft pick, not a tenth place finish and perpetual mediocrity.

Two points out of 6th place with several key injuries when he was fired.

High points? What were your expectations for Martin? Should we be in the Top 5 right now with this sorry team? Should we have beaten Boston last year (keep in mind the Champs only beat us ONCE in regulation during that 7 game series)? Should we have beaten Washington, Pittsburgh AND Philadelphia two years ago? Seriously, what more could Jacques Martin have done with the cards he had to play with?

If he forced Martin out, may not have created the situation but certainly lit the match in the powderkeg.

It's just such a mess. Cunneyworth is a guy who was Martin's captain as a Senator, his type of defensively responsible player. Probably got the AHL gig with the Bulldogs and certainly the assistant's job from Martin's recommendation.

Now, leaving aside the language problems, he's thrown into this situation where everyone hates Martin's boring defensive system. First he was talking about the system not being the problem...team keeps losing... now he's pushing a fore-check, and scratching Subban and Eller. It's like he's panicking and just as reactionary as anyone else would be. Perhaps now we see the value of an experienced NHL coach.

Add to it from the way Martin was fired seems that management (whoever it is throwing their weight around.. Gauthier, Gilmore, Molson) are equally reactionary...

Molson reads all my posts and does as I write. If there's anyone to blame, it's me.

I don't think they expected Cunneyworth to be amazing. It may not be right, but this is not the first time the coach is the first to go. That seems to be how it works. I think we are going to see a bit of a culture change.

I'm glad he is gone personally and I'm not going back on my word. He wasn't part of the solution, that's for sure. And I've been slowly losing interest for years, whether it's all his fault, I wouldn't go that far, but he was a huge part of why I disliked watching the Montreal Devils. No emotion. Again, I'm glad he is gone.
