List me too as one of those who would be very pleased to have Jarmo Kekalainen as GM. He has been learning that role here in Helsinki with Jokerit for two seasons now so he has some non-NHL experience in that position.

But I think the organization should primarily target people like Nill or Bergevin. Guys who have worked in winning organizations for a while and learned from people like Babcock. Who's Flyers assistant GM?

I wanted him as an assistant GM to either Nill or Fenton. I like him, but he doesn't have a whole lot of management experience. Also, his track record isn't exactly stellar as head scout in 2007-2008. Most of the key guys in building the Hawks are long gone.

Nill & Benning appear to be the top candidates in my mind, both have presided over the building of strong clubs and have won championships doing so. Although highly unlikely I personally would prefer Benning, he's had positive effects on mulitple teams Buffalo & Boston as opposed to Nill (only Detroit), and his draft record appears superior as well.

Montreal should use one of the only advantages they have and throw as much money as they can and pry one of these guys away from their present clubs.

If either Nill or Benning are hired then I would trust their judgment as to the best candidate for coach should be.
You sound rational, unlike the yahoos on this board who pluck random French names from their hockey card collections.

What could the new GM or Coach do??

You can't do **** when your owner force you to use a 7M dollar player with stats worse than a journeyman playing half the games with no ice time.

I'm not saying he would do a good job because I don't know. But your reaction was the same when Serge Savard was named (in fact, he jumped right from player to GM, like Garth Snow).

And a guy like Yzerman has less management experience than Damphousse. So we don't know...

And what about Paul Holmgren?

Though, don't worry. We won't go in that direction. We COULD have gone in that direction if it wasn't for the Molson-Gauthier stupidity and improvisation with the Martin firing......

So I keep talking about having more francos on board and I believe it. Yet, my only 2 GM candidates are Jim Benning and Trevor Timmins. But the coach will need to be franco unless.......Lindy Ruff becomes available. Jim Nill and Babcock will not be available.

Unfortunately, that whole mess Molson and Gauthier created will not even permit to have an anglo GM.

Boudreau is a terrible coach, he can't even get his star players going, they're floating everywhere on the ice. Hiring Dale Hunter will solve all their problems, he's tough, passionate, no doubt he'll whip Ovi into shape, he's also got history with the organization.

Now replace Boudreau with Cunneyworth, and Hunter with Roy. Roy could very well be a great NHL coach, but let's make sure the organization does all the proper interviews/research before we put all our hopes on St. Patrick.

Ever considered bringing in a hockey mom.

Seeing as a lot of hockey players come from Russia, and you can see Russia from Alaska, I say we give the job to...

I can't really judge a coach unless he gets a training camp. Very tough to come in mid season and turn things around. Plus, he needs to bring in "his guys".

Pretty sure if Dale and Cunney were able to build their teams, they'd look nothing like what they look like now.

9. The real wild card in Montreal is Patrick Roy. But he has to decide what he wants to do, if anything. (He has said he will not leave the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts during the season.) If Gauthier does go at some point, you will hear the name Julien Brisebois a lot. Now in Tampa, he was Hamilton's GM when the Bulldogs won the AHL's Calder Cup in 2007. One other name: Claude Loiselle. Keep hearing that Montreal COO Kevin Gilmore is a fan of Toronto's assistant GM.

Methodology

1. I compiled all the candidates suggested by posters in Management Thread 2.0 and 3.0.
2. *I didn't exclude any ridiculous suggestions*
3. I wrote the candidates in the same order I found them in those threads.
Edit 1: 4. Deleted
Edit 2: 5. Filtering coaching candidates: Out: Demers.
Edit 3: 6. Filtering GM candidates: Out: Bowman, Lemaire.
Edit 4:
7. Unavailable and not going anywhere: Out: Trotz, Babcock, Julien, Yeo, Quenneville, Poile, Shero, Chiarelli.
Edit 5: 8. Will reconsider an exclusion if any evidence that it's a serious candidacy.
Edit 6:
9. I'll update this list by adding a name either if:
a) a news source suggests a serious candidate, or
b) more than one posters say he's their first choice, or
c) 3 posters suggest a candidate

You forgot Jacques Martin is also available for coach

This made me laugh. But if that's the criterion, I'd much rather give the job to MICHAEL Palin.

I'm pretty sure McGuire has some sort of resentment towards Timmins.
