OT: Expos move is official

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1890915

MLB has informed Washington the decision has been made, and will make the announcement tomorrow.

As a Montreal native who grew up watching the Expos at the Big O, now living in the Washington, DC area, I have some mixed emotions on this one, but hope the team's fortunes rebound and will make a point of going to a few games at RFK when they are ensconced.

Going to be there tomm. It will be extremely emotional. I am really sad to see them go, I would love for a farm team to come here in a smaller park that is outdoors, that would be so good

All fine. Montreal and the MLB were like a definitely broken couple forced to sleep together until divorce papers could be filed, only with more media scrutiny.

The Expos help get me through the hockeyless summer and I listen to most of their games and even went to a couple this year. The fall of 2004 is turning into the darkest sports-part of my life. I'm pretty down right now.

At least, we have football to keep us alive in the meantime...

I hope MLB is happy, they finally managed to get rid of the Expos. Watch out Jays fans, you're next.

Shouldn't be that long... I've heard they're losing money each year...

I like this quote by Jim Caple on ESPN.

"If tonight's game is to be the final one at Stadium Olympique, I suggest the fans enjoy some final smoked meat sandwiches, sing "O, Canada'' at the top of their lungs, cheer their Expos and then give baseball the raised middle finger it deserves."

i will never forgive bud selig or the mlb espcially after 94. They would have won the world series that year and also got alot more revunue to keep a few of their players. A sad day for me i loved this team. I will never watch another game of baseball again unless oakland makes it to the world series

I'll miss the Expos. I certainly don't think I will cheer for Washington because everything will be changed about them.

Goodbye Expos!

That does not necessarily mean baseball is gunning for them now. Many teams lose money 'each year'. The Jays have good fan support. The Jays have something that the Expos sadly do not...a history. The Blue Jays were a big part of baseball from the late 80's-early 90's. Back to back World Series championships. A few more division championships.

Tonight was so good. Got drunk at peel pub, then went to the game, while driving there me and my friends were screaming out the car, scaring the **** out of people. Wow I haven't laughed so hard in a long time.

That figures. Only a drunken idiot would go to the game. The statium must have reeked of tens of thousands of beer drinking idiots.

I respect you as a poster but when you cite Montreal's lack of a baseball history, Jackie Robinson comes to mind. IN fairness you referred to the Expos, I guess, not the city, well the Expos have had many outstanding teams and I for one consider it quite a history. I don't know how what you refer to relates though.

I don't drink beer. Baseball is good when your team isn't a AA team. Imagine the habs playing with ECHLers?

Not really into baseball but the clips I saw from the Big O tonight had me getting a little freakin' misty eyed. Place looked real good with 30,000+ people in it.
