Van, looking at the replay of the PP goal, was laboring a bit. They may be calling it UBI (wrist or hand), but he's carrying that one leg off the ice a lot in that sequence on the five-on-three. Groin? Knee? Ack. Get well Tom.

Mostly a good effort, but just a few mistakes end up in the back of the net. Seemed like a game from two years ago.

Brayden McNabb in for MAG and the 2nd powerplay unit was actually pretty good. Heh.

G: Good game tonight....entertaining, physical, Sabres made me care tonight.

B: Loss sucks. This team needs wins not excuses.

More to the point, this team needs to score goals and their top offensive threat is now hurt.

U: I marvel at our inability to get to rebounds. Esp. since our offensive attack is predicated on shots from the point and outside and going to the net for the rebound.

Total screw up in bench management in last PP and final shifts on ice.

This is an area where Ruff does not shine whatsoever. And where I agree with the can Ruff crowd. Ruff has been way less than brilliant in his management of end game situations.

The last four minutes were terrible. I have no idea why the first unit was out there for a minute and a half when the second PP was the one with the best chances. After that, just a total cluster****.

Yep, and it was clear the top line was gassed from that 90 seconds later on. Bad decision there from Ruff.

G
Entertaining game, good effort by the sabres
Whitmore, Ellis, Kassian, Goose, Stafford
Poms/Roy getting back on the scoreboard
Miller for most of the game
I liked sekera's game for the most part. He's quietly effective on defense and offense
Brayden McNabb makes the D way nastier and he was decent on the PP
Time off for players to heal

B
Leo for the last 10 minutes of the 3rd period. Does he have a hand injury or something? He's flubbed more than a few clearing attempts/dump ins lately
No call on Phaneuf for tackling Roy
Regehr's bad luck on the Kessel goal
Miller on the 3rd goal, even though kadri took a good shot. Memo to Ryan: People know they can beat you high glove side. Try to fix that, please.

U
Vanek injured nooooo
Our 5 on 3 PP was meh, and we only scored because pominville got a lucky break. They really need to start moving around on those-shooting the puck from extremely obvious set plays isn't that effective when the d is in position to block them
The extreme suck that was the final minute of the game

Fire Lindy. That last 3 mins is as bad as it gets for a coach.

Yeah, it's a hand. He's still having problems with it -- can't go to the backhand much at all.

In critical situations Ruff's tendency is to go to his favorites or who he thinks are his top talents - irregardless of the circumstances or how well or poorly they are playing. Tonight was an opportunity to be bold and put the 2nd PP out there and go with our strength.

Also, I thought this was Roy's best game in a bit. Very solid on the PK and he distributed well on the 2nd unit as well. He was meh at ES, but that's because the line he was on has clearly demonstrated that they aren't anything more than a midgame adjustment, not a permanent combination. Put Stafford and Poms with Adam and play Roy with Kass.

Except all the times he put Grier or Mair out with 2 minutes to go...

I like the implication that the person receiving the Lexus would recognize the song from the commercial coming from a music box or guitar hero.

I liked McNnabb a lot tonight and thought that he and the Hoff made a great ES pairing. 5 hits, looked good on the PP, and loved that he stood in for Vanek against Dion Spotpicker.

The scariest part of all of this is that Regehr is still obviously ailing from his previous injury. I'm beginning to wonder if he needs minor surgery on it but doesn't want to sit out given the current roster situation. He's lined up about 5 games every game only to reel back in and pin them instead.

So he thinks Kaleta and Ellis are our top talents? They were out there with like 1:20 left... And Kaleta stayed til :15 seconds left.

Ugly: Stat from WGR postgame.

We are only 3 points better this year at the Xmas break, than we were last year(where many of us were saying the Sabres looked like the worst team in the league)
