The one thing that disappointed me was Eberle not getting enough opportunity to get the hattrick due to all the shorthanded time.
The Oilers had to kill 1/4 of Gagner's double-minor at the end of the second period. Nothing stopped them from playing to win during middle frame.

Outshooting the Wild prior to the penalty parade. After the penalties, played an effective game to ensure the win. Stupid Renney.

They didn't allow a goal in the second...pretty sure for most observers of hockey that is how you play to win.

"Effective game" is how you would put it? This is not the first game where the Oilers decide to shut it down once they feel comfortable with a lead. Being badly outshout during the last 40 minutes is not what I would call an "effective game".

It's nice to see some secondary scoring. If Smyth and Petrell don't score, this game would've been a lot scarier.

RNH had a meh game, but I can't expect an 18 year old to bring it every night. At least Eberle and Hall have the ability to step up and carry that line when The Nuge isn't feeling it.

Well, he can be instrumental in our tank job. Without Hemsky, the kids are running around, shooting the puck and generally being out of control which leads to scoring. Someone needs to teach them the right way to slack, relax and take it easy. That's where the seasoned veteran, Ales Hemsky, comes in.

Seriously, a 4-0 lead should be a comfortable one.

And again, part of the reason they got badly outshot was because of... gasp... the 9 minute PP!

Effective is when you have the lead you don't let in any 5 on 5 goals...did they accomplish that?

Who are we calling snowpants? Gagner or Hall? Because both of them seem to have a helluva time staying on their skates.

I like to think Hemsky is showing the kids how to play the year their ELCs expire so as to ensure long-term value for the franchise.

Not entirely true in the 2nd...

Prior to the period's conclusion, the Wild went on an 11-0 run in shots and were rewarded with a late-period power-play when Sam Gagner was issued a double-minor for high-sticking when he nipped Minnesota's Pierre-Marc Bouchard.

We finished the first with 20 sog and then added only another 10 by the end of the game. How many of those are due to the 9 minutes of pk? We did spend 31 ES and only 10 shots?

Couldn't disagree more. RNH along with Eberle was facilitating everything on that line tonight, Hall had one of his weakest games since he came back from injury.
He was falling down all over the place, had a hard time controlling the puck and looked horrible on that PS.

Good game by the Oil. Did an effective job killing those penalties. Very effective PK. Good effective win. Eberle was effective with 2 Goals, and Khabby was a very effective goalie. I thought Eager and Petry had effective games as well.

Very effective win! Oh, and Smid and Peckham had some effective blocks as well

Turns out Sidney Crosby suckerpunching Sidney Crosby causing Sidney Crosby to be out for the season is a "hockey play".

Interesting.

Gagner as well.

Except for the stupid 4 minute penalty that changed the momentum of the game.

And we were able to weather the 11-0 run...good for the boys. They then rebounded and were able to effectively keep the Wild from scoring. Are we the first team to have this occur?

We have in the past couple of weeks came out strong, choke and blow the game. Tonite we were able to control the outcome. Be happy with a win...this ain't a Stanley Cup team.

And I agree RNH is getting alot more comfortable with his spin moves on the boards he had a good game, Hall seems a little selfish with the puck sometimes, he needs to realize he is playing with star linemates .

RNH is continuing to show his ability to be effective in his own end.

Also loved his hit on Clutterbuck (or Brodziak?) in front of the bench in the third...good to see some edge in his game.

Khabibulin made some amazing saves tonight . For those who continually refuse to recognize Dubnyk's shortcomings just watch how quickly Khabibulin (an old man by NHL standards) gets back up on his feet . Always square to the shot . Always ready . He put on a clinic tonight .

Poor game by Gagner , and I'm not talking about the high sticking call either . No jump , no flow . Pretty disappointing .

Nice to see Backstrom all frustrated tonight . Bet he felt like **** when Smyth scored on that wraparound .

Too bad Jones missed that pass through the crease with thirty seconds left .

My wishes for the New Year :

May I never have to see Shawn Horcoff on the PP again .
Truthfully he may be one of the worst options available to the coach yet he keeps going back to him .

May we please save some of Smyth's energy by using someone else on the PK . There are other options there .
