Around the NHL | Part XII | 2011-2012 Edition

Continue discussion from here in this thread:

I'd have to agree that Crosby is going to be coming in tip-top shape. Maybe one game where he gets sheltered minutes to get back into the flow, but after that should be back to normal.

That has become the most used non-letter on these boards.

Really, Dany Heatley must be tearing it up then right?

Nope. He's on pace for 20 goals and 48 points.

Haha. I honestly didn't think they would be where they are at this stage of the season. I actually had a soft spot for minny from (I think) their 02/03 playoff run-the one where they kept getting down early in the series and coming back to win. No soft spot now dany the ****** is there

I heard some guy names Sydnay is coming back tonight. Apparently it's big news but I have no idea who that is.

Crazy how under the radar he's been considering the comparison.

Seriously. You'd think TSN would have a story on it or something.

People on another site are bashing Crosby for advocating some rule changes to better protect players.

I wouldn't mind an automatic penalty for any and all head shots a la the high sticking rule. It shouldn't matter if you meant it or not. Most high sticks are unintentional, but no one questions the need for the rule. I think it's pretty brave of Crosby to suggest this.

But when you get 200+ lb men skating at speeds of around 32 km/h (or 20 mph) colliding into each other with hard plastic "pads" people are going to get hurt no matter what. No helmet in the world can adequately protect a human head when it's hit with a combined speed of more than 60 km/h.

I think concussions always were, and always will be part of our game but at least we know more about their effects and are at least thinking of ways to cut down on them. I can't believe I'm saying this...but I agree with Don Cherry about the armour players are wearing today.

I never got this opinion.

I understand if you're just tired of the Crosby "over-saturation", but the guy is the best player in the league (potential concussion issues notwithstanding), and he's not dirty. Unless you're just sick of seeing him push shoes at Sport Check on TV, I don't see why you'd hate him.

Oh well. The best player in every league usually has a contingent of fan who hate him because "it's cool" to hate him.

NFL has Peyton Manning (well, not this year, but the analogy fits), and the NHL has Crosby.

*yawn*

I resented Gretzky in the Oilers heyday. Natural schadenfreude response, I suppose. I like watching Crosby play, glad that he's back. But I can understand why his personality might rub some people the wrong way.

I don't understand what part of his personality could rub people the wrong way though. The whiny part of it? Seems to me he wasn't doing much whining before he went out with the concussion. Besides that he seems like a genuine good guy.

I don't hate Crosby for his personality, and I respect how he plays.

It's just, I hate his face. Can't stand his face. He's got a face that I wanna punch.

I used to hate Crosby when he first came into the league but he was a young kid still learning the ropes and maturing. He's come a long way with his on ice behavior.

I hate when people think you have to chose between Crosby and Ovechkin. This isn't Twilight.

I could read the Internet a million times over, but I will not come across a truer quote than this one.

Good for him to be back!

However the conspiracy nerd in me says that Islanders will get boned hard by the refs tonight

I'll watch the game.
