Happy Holidays, all.

I got my Christmas present 7 months early when I met my soon to be fiancée back in May. I know it seems soon, but trust me, this is the real deal. I can't begin to explain it.

Other than that I received 4 new tires for the Jeep, matching infinity bracelets, some nice clothing, gloves, and a few other things TBD tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

There's no such thing as too soon. My grandparents got married after a month of knowing each other and tomorrow is their 53rd anniversary. Good luck dude.

Merry Christmas

A Happy and Healthy new years to everyone

After experiencing what happened in March here in Japan with the Tsunami, as well as 9-11 I have learned to enjoy what life has to offer.

Take the time be thankful for being around friends and family

and the rangers being in first place is so sweet, but beating the Flyers to get there is just icing on the cake

I detest christmas for what it has become. Meeting family and possible relatives, great, spending time together, great...

... but the rest? Christmas has been overcommercialized to the level of ridiculousness. Christmas songs and products in october. I'm sick of it. We have enough huge problems with overconsumtion as it is, like we need another excuse to spend more resources on things we don't need, to people who already have everything they need.

My family formed an agreement years ago. No christmas gifts - children excluded. At least we got that moment of absurd stress out of the picture. I've heard it's getting more and more common as well. Christmas has lost its point a long time ago. A common pattern in a society of extreme materialism, where there is no spirit left, only the shallow wrappings.

In my (mostly) atheist family, we still love Christmas. Being spread across the country, it's the one time of year we get to gather everyone and just enjoy eachothers company. Being a bachelor myself, I spend these holidays with my parents.

Christmas Eve lunch at my grandparents' place with my mothers siblings and their kids, and my sisters and niece and nephew. Followed by christmas dinner at my parents with one of my sisters. Norwegian style rib roast (really bone-in pork belly) and lutefisk (love it or hate it. I love it). A nice, quiet family christmas.

Christmas day brunch with a huge smorgossbord just finished, and now it's time to test my new ice skates. Merry Christmas to all of HF and to Rangers fans everywhere. Plus, I hope all the killjoys out there, giving O'Reilly a chance to play his "war on Christmas"-card, get charcoal in their stockings.

I agree for sure on all of it, but I also love giving gifts, and putting real thought in to making or buying them for loved ones. So, while there is this general societal hype around the holiday that is very unnecessary, I think some of the fun can be retained in the materialistic side of things without going crazy and just spend spend spending.

You are absolutely right though, it has become ridiculous and very hollow.

Agreed Chimp. My wife and I have been making the rounds to see friends and relatives up here in Westchester all morning and the kind of response you get, especially from older people, puts the real meaning of Christmas into sharper focus.

My family also decided to stop giving presents, which has made Christmas much better, I think. It's really come back to us just being together (my aunt is here from Finland, too).

Still, I did end up (surprisingly) with a magnum of Châteauneuf du Pape and a bottle of fine olive oil from my cousin after dinner at his apartment last night! When you're not expecting a present, and you get some anyway, it's all the more touching!

Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Enjoy the Season to everyone!

I got my sister a Boondock Saints Lamp (two guns and you pull the trigger to turn on the light) and a under armour sweatshirt.

I got my dad Wireless headphones and a Giants blanket.

I got my brother in law Mario Kart DS and a WoW game card.

I got my little cousin some zhu zhu game for the DS and a disco ball from Justice (Little girl store that is very uncomfortable to be in alone, people were looking at me like I was a pedo or something )

I got my other twin cousins microsoft points

This is the first year that I have had money to get nice presents and I wanted to get everyone something nice.

Oh and for New Years my mom got a Turducken. That is a Turkey stuffed with a duck stuffed with a chicken! Are you ****ing kidding me that is crazy!

No clue what I am getting but everyone is continuing to tell me that I am going to have a very nice Christmas so i am pretty excited for that.

Also me and a couple of my buddies are going to the ADTR and Rise Against concert in January, so that is something to look forward to. Also am recently single so that is also a nice plus because I do not have to deal with the **** anymore

Are you going to the adtr/rise against show at the Coliseum?

My siblings and I don't exchange gifts as adults really, but because I buy presents for all my nieces & nephews, I always get a little something from my brother & sister.... This year it was:

-bottle of wine
-big bag of excellent beef jerky
-a wooden sign that says "No Working During Drinking Hours" to hang in my apartment
-and this doormat:

Gave my 5 nephews & nieces Candy & Cash ($25 in singles rolled up in a rubber band, street dealer style) for Christmas.

The two big things I got were my Winter Classic ticket being paid for and my dad paying for most of my laptop since I needed one with my other one breaking. I got some other little stuff but those were the two main things.

I did treat myself to a WC Henrik jersey at the game the other night with money I've saved up from work.
