Luke Schenn

Leafs have been lacklustre over the past 11 games or so, but Schenn has been a bright spot.

He's getting the physicality going, and in the last 11 games has 7 points and is a +4. I can't wait for when he puts a full season together.

I remember the day he was drafted and I thought a meltdown was going to happen as everyone wanted Filatov in that spot.

He had a GREAT game last night, but I'd say he's been average to good the last little while, nothing to rave about. On the PK he's been brutal clearing the puck and his lack of foot speed costs him when he tries to carry the puck.

I want to see him bring it for a good stretch before we start the St. Luke routine again.

When he's hitting everything that moves he is at his best and is a joy to watch. He still holds two hands on his stick sometimes and makes poor decisions here and there but he has been much better after the healthy scratch.

I think he's been our worst defenseman this year. Looks slow, turns pucks over on a nightly basis and has been bad on the PK. To be honest, I would be fine if he was moved in a package for a top line player. I think Aulie will be better in the long run.

he's doing everything I would want from him ... but he's been bad on the PK

he's really evolving into a great all-around dman... he also has been making some good passes and taking some shots

Agreed he has picked it up from the benching but he could still improve on the pk, albeit the entire pk unit has been crap just in general

He's responded to being scratched fantastically. These horrible coaching decisions can't go on any longer. #firewilson

He's been terrible the last three years untill December, maybe they should set him out the 1st game of the season and he''ll get it.

Luke 3.8, Bogasian 2.5

Over the past 10 games, Schenn has played to about the level that he is at. On some nights he is huge to the teams sucess. On most nights he does what he has to, plays 18 - 19 minutes a game and is solid. On some nights when he isnt moving his feet he will make some boneheaded plays.

I think Luke has proven he is a top 4 defenceman, and a legit shutdown / defensive presence.

Praise for Schenn? Nope not yet. He's one of the reasons our PK sucks so much. Everytime I see him on the 1st unit PK I cringe. He has to be the worst defensemen in the league for clearing the zone.

But he has been playing a lot better as of late, minus his PK gaffs aside.

Yup, Schenn has looked good in the last 10. Been a real physical force.

He hasn't been great and he hasn't been bad. He will never be more than a 2nd pairing shutdown Dman regardless of the team.

please stop limiting our players potential, this is not just to you, but to our whole fanbase in general

just like how Kessel will not be anything more than a 1-dimensional sniper

just like how Bozak will be nothing more than a 4th liner

just like how Lupul will be nothing more than a stop-gap/salary dump

This is right on.

Schenn has the potential to develop into an elite D-man.

I really don't see that ceiling at all, but I suppose you never know.

He still looks...very unsmooth, choppy, kind of style of play. Can't explain it. He looks confused sometimes on the ice, but yes during the last short tenure, he's been playing good. I always think he plays WAY better when he emotionally becomes invested in the game. A big hit early, or a scrum real early gets him in the game. Need to bring that consistently though.

Schenn is a guy that needs to find a rhythm to play his best. He's definitely been gaining steam the past couple weeks, which is promising.

Being the NHL hit leader on defense again is definitely an encouraging sign.

I can't remember the last time the leafs didn't have a wiping boy on defence. Schenn and the rest of the guys have been great. Komi should never play the rest of the season, everyone else is just better. Nice to see Luke is getting the points, and he's been physical on a consistent basis.

Even when people were limiting our players, most people weren't far off.

Kessel: Nothing more then a 1 dimensional sniper, but still really good at that 1 dimension to the tune of 40+ goals, 50+ potential.

Bozak: Most people said 3rd liner, not 4th liner. Also, he's a good faceoff guy. Besides, who knows, maybe he actually only IS a 3rd liner. He's had a good 1/3 season so far but his two linemates are both in top 10 scoring and outscoring bozie by a significant margin.

Lupul: Stop gap only because of injury concerns...and those concerns were 100% legit at the time.

Define elite Dman please. Top 10? Top 20? #1 D?

I honestly don't see Schenn ever fitting into any of those criteria. I believe his ceiling is a top pairing dman but will mainly "just" be a 2nd pairing guy.

Schenn is definitely far from smooth, and I think that throws A LOT of people off when basing opinions. If you can actually get your head around the fact that he will never skate as smoothly as Keith or Lidstrom, he makes really clutch plays.
