Daugavins: Is he really here to stay

Guess im one of those fans who follow a team when a personal favorite is playing. Maybe you do know, maybe not, but latvians are pretty crazy about hockey, so at the moment you have huge fanbase of people, who are staying awake throught the night (Games for us starts at 2AM) just to see our only latvian in NHL.
Anyway, what i wanted to ask true Senators fans is - do you think, does he fit in Sens long term plans? Or is he just a filler untill next season, when his contract expiers?

He's a good player but he's far from indispensable.
I don't think the Senators will let him go unless unless they are forced to: either he wants too much money or there's a better bottom 6 player coming up in the system.

I remember hearing on the Team 1200 that Murray told him to find a place to live in Ottawa. So he more then likely wont be sent back to the AHL unless it's for the playoffs.

I also agree with above post. I love what he brings but we have a youth movement coming and he'll have to really impress to be in the future plans.

Part of the reason for the surprising success of our team so far is that Daugavins and other players like Greening and Condra play a tough game and work every minute that they are out on the ice. They make it difficult for other teams to play against them, unlike in previous years. Players like this are difficult to replace sometimes, because not every prospect has the heart and character that Daugavins and others like him have. But if we can find a player with more talent to score who also has heart and a work ethic then Daugavin is replaceable. but that philosophy applies to everybody on the team.

He's here to stay for the season. I don't know about next year. There are a lot of good young players coming up and if the team wants to make a splash in free agency he might be the odd man out.

He is a hard working bottom six player who adds a lot of energy to the team... he should be here to stay long term and be a fixture of the bottom six and a PK unit

Love Daug.

Id be more than happy to have him for the next few years but as others have said he'll have to really work hard not to be passed over by our other young guys.

Murray and the Stache really seem to like him as well.

If Stache has any say in the matter when they do the end of season evaluation, Daugavins is the type of guy he'd want back. He turns 24 next May so he's still pretty young. Solidly built, good skater, excellent checker, good on pk, plays safe and smart. Great bottom 6 that will accept any role and can fit on any line. My guess is they offer him a 1 way deal. Which means an important decision will have to made about Regin plus Winchester and possibly Konopka will move on if they believe that at least 1-2 prospects will make the team next year.

I'm also a fan of that sort and I was also about to post a similar thread asking the same question. Dawg still puts his heart out every night but lately I've become more worried about his chance staying here in long term. When Dawg was on the 3rd line together with Smith and Condra at a point he even had something like 5P in last 6 Games played. On pre-game threads he was shown as a player to be watched out from etc. After Neil returned the lines changed and sadly now Dawg hasn't produced on the stats sheet at all. And now Senators have acquired Turris too. How long will he be kept if he continues not to produce on the stats sheet?? Won't he be sent back to Bingo?

Daugavins isn't on the team to score. He's here to set an example on how to backcheck block shots, kill penalties, and play a strong possession game with few turnovers. When he scores or sets up a goal it's just gravy.

He's here to stay for this year, but if we know anything about Murray (see Butler Condra Greening), Daugavins is auditioning for a 2-year one-way deal in summer 2012.

With Fuhr's avatar as the image. God, it creeps me out on here enough.

The thing I've noticed about K-Daug is his pk positioning is textbook. A young forward learning the PK could learn a lot by watching what K-Daug does every game.

WELL Kaspar Daugavins, definitely deserve to stay in Ottawa, he showed potential and he helped his teammates shoot some goals which is a very important thing.

I don't think he should be sent down and if we can re-sign him, go ahead.

It's hard not to like anyone in your bottom 6 regardless of the team you cheer for.

If he isn't re-signed here, good luck to him and I hope he gets another NHL contract. He works hard and plays pretty well at all ends.

K-Daug is awesome. Adds energy, excitement, and chips in a few goals here and there. Perfect for the bottom six, and I can't wait to see how he develops these next few years.

He was Santa Claus at the Sens Christmas party.

How could they fail to sign Santa?
