I want to say Hasek, but I'm not sure if he had switched to a new style out of the lockout.

Yup. How soon we forget. Birdseye cage, player helmet. And Rick Dipietro wore the same setup recently while recovering from that broken orbital.

And LOL at the OP. Goalies don't clean their pads. Irbe's were so dirty because he replaced them as little as humanely possible (and ran over them with trucks)- most goalies change pairs every couple of months these days.

They don't clean them.. they just get new pads.

Irbe used to have his dog chew on his pads to brake them in, but it was always hard for him to get the pads back from his dogs. During one such moment, the dog bit his hand and thats when he lost a finger.

Because goalies tend to get new pads every year. Or if not new pads, reskinned pads with a new company graphic.

I hear Irbe got ran over with a bus driven by his dog and lost his entire right arm. True story.

He probably had a tech do it. I have to clean the fretboards on my guitars as well as the bridges and tail pieces now and then. Residue from the hands build up on them.

Just sayin'

Just to be clear here, the story about him losing fingers is not made up, that wasn't a joke, and it's 100% true.

I remember reading somewhere that he liked the gunk that accumulated on his guitars from hours of use. How very odd. For what it's worth, I clean my most-used guitars maybe once a year. Maybe that's a project for the new year, my main Telecaster is starting to look kind of ratty.

It's not the size I like. It's the style of the pads. They represent more of the older style, stand up pads goalies wore in the 80's.

They're aren't the butterfly pads that have the wedge shape at the top part that is designed to contain the puck from rebounding towards the center.

The statement that Irbe "lost fingers" is 100% false.
