1). Thomas Vanek is skating so he may be ready to try to gut through another game like he did Thursday in Toronto.

2). Jochen Hecht is on a line, with Vanek and Jason Pominville, for the first time in a few weeks.

3). Brad Boyes is on a line with Derek Roy and Drew Stafford

4). Tyler Ennis is skating in white with Matt Ellis, Zack Kassian, Paul Szczechura and Luke Adam. You would think two from this group won't play tonight.

5). Tyler Myers is again skating with the defensemen. He's paired with Marc-Andre Gragnani, who's likely to again be a healthy scratch.

6). Nathan Gerbe and Corey Tropp both skated in red non-contact jerseys with the team for the first time since suffering concussions and then left the ice when drills started.

Both teams like to play only one period well. Smells like OT. Pominville with the winner in oooooovertime.

Ovechkin
Laich
Johansson

Adam
Stafford
Roy
Pominville

Keep jamming that square peg in there, Lindy. It'll fit eventually.

Wearing my brand new Vanek jersey, hoping that the hockey gods smile upon it and allow Vanek to make it through this game without aggravating his injury.

Another reason why TV's my choice for Capt. He's obviously having problems but will gut it out for the team.

This guy has come a long, long way IMO.

How so? For the 8 games Ruff had them together, they played well. Hecht has great chemistry whenever he plays with Pominville, and we all know how well Vanek & Pominville have meshed. On paper, Hecht should not be a # 1 center but right now, he's a better option than Roy or Szezchura and just as effective as Adam was.

Yes, they showed some good chemistry but they weren't producing that much where one could qualify them as having an impact on the outcome of games.

Did Ruff say so? The TBN blog hasn't noted it and nothing on WGR yet....

I dunno..... I can't give you the specific opponents off the top of my head but in the couple of games they were together, they were the only spark I saw from any of the fwd lines. And actually put some O-zone pressure on the opposition by displaying some nice puck control and passing.

Seems like Adam had a goal or maybe two as a result and Leino's assist numbers went up. Kassian for the most part -with one or two exceptions - has played well with any line he's been assigned to.

Agree that this one line did not carry the team so I'll watch my phrasiology better in the future. Impact line?.... maybe not..... action line?...I think so

Bill Hoppe also confirmed @JEnroth125 is really Enroth, from the department of less-important news.

I think your point, which is valid, is that they were often the Sabres' best line for the 4-5 games they were together in terms of applying pressure in the offensive zone and creating chances. Nevertheless, they weren't producing a lot of results though or impacting the outcomes of games.

Hecht was between Vanek and Pominville for much of the second half surge last year too. If it works, it works. Yeah, ideally we'd have a better option at center, but I won't argue with results.

Wonder if Boyes will ride shotgun with Roy and Stafford gets bumped down the depth chart, or if Boyes is gonna play center (god no), or if one of them goes on the offwing.

Harrington says Whitmore sent down, Szczechura still up (but he thinks it's as an insurance in case Hecht can't go).

WGR says Boyes was with Roy and Stafford

Vanek-Hecht-Pominville
Boyes-Roy-Stafford

leaves the bottom 6 (my guess, they didn't say):

Adam-Gaustad-Kaleta
Ellis-McCormick-Kassian

??? (I think those were the bottom 6 lines from last game? Although Kassian and Kaleta should be flipped at the very least if Ruff has any sense)

It was originally 4-6 weeks and last week was #4. There was hope he'd be back last week since it was progressing well but last I heard after being evaluated early last week they are projecting him to be back 1st week of January.
