For Sabretip and littletonhockeycoach, who were discussing the impact of the Adam, Leino, Kassian line.

Using diebytheblade.com, a Sabres blog that is tracking scoring chances this season, we see that as a line they generated seven scoring chances in the five games they were together (all in December). Five of the chances were in two games, the second and third games they were put together.

Adam had three chances and one goal; Leino had one and one goal; Kassian had three and two goals.

If the idea was to spark Leino, the results are mixed. He did have three assists over the period, but the shots (four) and chances (one) just aren't there on a regular basis. And he was a -2 in those five games.

Take the scoring chances for what they're worth. On one hand, it's "just" a fan site. On the other, they seem to be doing a very careful job of presenting their data.

Would still rather have Whitmore in there instead of Ellis.

Stafford-Roy-Boyes

i hate to see kassian on the 4th line.

Boyes - Roy - Pomineville
Vanek - Adam - Kassian
McCormick - Gaustad - Kaleta
Ellis - Hecht - Stafford

would be my lineup tonight.
Wanna see Vanek with Kass & Adam and I want to find out If Roy could find some chemestry with Boyes and Pommineville.
l
I fear that Ruff will send down kassian soon.

Oh and last but not least: I really hope grags sits.

Personally I'd like to see:

Vanek-Adam-Pominville
Boyes-Hecht-Kassian
Ellis-Roy-Stafford
McCormick-Gaustad-Kaleta

Ellis there only because we don't really have another scoring line forward to put there. Gerbe, Ennis, or Leino would all be better options...thank you IR. I guess at least we know 1/3 of that line will work his ass off...

See if they can re-spark the line from the beginning of the year in VAP, and Hecht-Kassian cycling (those two are the best Sabres at protecting the puck down low without question) with Boyes being the "finisher" on that line is incredibly intriguing.

At least we agree that burrying Kassian on the 4th line while Stafford has been playing crap all year is complete BS.

I like V-A-P too but Hecht doesn't belong in our top 6 imo.

With VAP as our Top line, I would continue with these lines:

Boyes - Roy - Kassian
Stafford/McCormick - Gaustad - Kaleta
Ellis - Hecht - McCormick/Stafford

I wish Gaustad was splitting Adam and Kassian and Ellis was centering the 4th line.

Adam/Leino/Kassian did get Leino going. Posters need to realize his game is about setting others up, particularly at ES, not goal scoring. In that regard he was doing well with those two. Considering they were the 3rd line at the time, they produced pretty well offensively.

Me too. Last time I got jersey it was a Roy jersey...right before he went down for the season. I really hope I'm not a jersey jinx...

But anyway, two under-performing teams playing the day after christmas? Either a boring low-scoring affair or a sloppy high-scoring mess a la the Winnipeg game.

Scenario 1:
Adam
Hecht

Backstrom

Scenario 2:
Pommer
Stafford
Ehrhoff
Kassian
Adam

Laich
Semin
OV
Carlson

But none of the three assists was the classic example of a center setting up his winger. I'm not looking down at three assists in two games, but it's not like suddenly it was, "Oh yeah, THAT's why we signed Leino."

Leino at least has to get on his pace of previous seasons in the shot department.

Sweet, hockey again. Feels like it's been forever.

Odds are certainly with the Caps, but I'd like to see an honest effort from the Sabres tonight. Holiday's over, back to work.

I'll be there as well, hopefully leaving soon with my wife.

The lineup looks like it's getting better so let's see some effort again tonight.

Let's go

A lot of folks like to use stats and that's fine. But I'm old school. The chemistry, compatibility, momentum, gamesmanship, the ability to read each other's intent and moves in advance (which I recognize are subjective/qualitative measures) are greater determinants of who should be line mates for me than most other measures. If they play well together, then they should stay together. And Adam - Leino - Kassian were the Sabres most "dynamic" line when they were together.

Just my opinion.

The good news is he's got Kassian with Adam again. But with Ellis. I'd rather they kept another Rochester kid up.

How much do you want to bet that at the end of all this he sends Zach back to Rochester and keeps Ellis up?

Nothing surprises anymore when it's Ruff

I'm hoping little better result on this one than the 8-1 beating that FIN U20 got just a moments ago

I suppose one could argue that Zach would benefit more from getting top-line minutes in Ra-cha-cha as opposed to getting shuffled around and ultimately moved to the bottom 6 and probably 4th line in Buffalo when everyone is healthy.

Plugging in holes so the kids can develop in the AHL is pretty much the only reason why a journeymen like Ellis still has an NHL job.

I'll be the one who says it. I wouldn't mind Kassian going down for top-line minutes in the AHL.

This guy could mean a lot to this franchise. I don't want to see him rushed.

Team goal right there. Ehrhoff makes a nice chip pass to Vanek at the line, Vanek sends it across to Leopold to start the rush, Leopold hits Stafford and Pominville finishes the great feed.
