Finally got my hands on a Starter White Liberty Gretzky jersey with tri-color lettering and numbers.
Paid about $50 more than I wanted but I wanted it for a few reasons. First, although CCM, ProPlayer, and Starter made Liberty jerseys, Gretzky only wore white Starter jerseys when he was here. Second, the size is the correct size Gretzky wore. Third, it's authentic and not a replica. Lastly, it's in near mint condition.
Cool tidbit of note: In regards to the white Liberty jerseys, only early white Liberty jerseys have the tri-color lettering on the name. The Rangers started the season with 3-color names, but the league said they didn't get permission to use three colors, so after only a couple games they were forced to switch to 2-color names. If you have an authentic white liberty jersey with tri-color letters, hang on to it!
Will post up pics soon!
If it's the one that was just on ebay thats a pretty reasonable price. Congrats.
I've seen those Authentic white liberty Starters go for upwards of $270+ with no customization. I sold one on ebay a few years ago that was an actual team issue "made in Berlin, Wisconsin" size 58-R that went for $300 with no customization. Add to the fact that it would be difficult to find someone who can do an exact size/font of the 3 color name/numbers and you got a great shirt for a very reasonable price. I used to collect the "authentics" for years before I got into "game worns" and I only have ever seen a handful of those come and go in ebay since about 2002ish when I started ebaying.
Post pics when you get it. Deffinatly fist pump worthy!
There are black jersey's available at the shop. Why? I've never seen them in any situation.
Also, what are the exact differences between authentic and premier? Other than twice the price.
Black jerseys are just fashion jerseys. They're basically for folks who want different colors or want to create a different "look". I have no problem with people wearing them - at least they're supporting the team with official licensed jerseys as opposed to those people who bought those Chinese Winter Classic knockoffs in early December. Bet they feel like idiots now.
The difference between authentic and premiere (I'm sure Callahan can correct any misperceptions I might have):
Authentic is basically the same jersey as worn "on-ice". All numbers/letters are stitched on, no screen printing, elbows are usually double layered, double stitching...overall just a much better quality jersey.
Premieres are considered "replica". There is some screen printing, the material may be different, no double layers, little if any double stitching. Sizing is more suited for consumer wear. It's basically meant to be a jersey for the budget conscious fan who wants a jersey but doesn't want to pay a small fortune for one. One usual giveaway is how size is indicated. If it's a numeral size (48, 50, 52, 54, etc.) most likely it's an authentic. If it's in letter (S, M, L, XL, XXL) it's a premiere/replica.
I'm just starting to learn about subtleties of jerseys and it's pretty overwhelming. So many different materials used, 3-4 main manufacturers over the years releasing various models (Koho, Starter, CCM, ProPlayer). I've learned it's very easy to make knockoffs or to invalidate a jersey by customizing it with the wrong font, patches, etc. Some of the guys on the sites I go to have absolute encyclopedic knowledge about jerseys (Starter made these jerseys between this year and that, ProPlayer only made it one year, the collar colors should be as follows, they used this font with this much spacing, so-and-so wasn't a Captain until late in the year so the A is accurate, etc.). Amazing dudes.

either it's authentic or really super duper beast chinese replica
It's fake. Few things I noticed:
-Crest is not proportioned correctly. The bottom of the crest comes too close to the lower red stripe.
-Colors are too rich. Colors on the official WInter Classic jersey are much more washed out and faded. Cream color on official jersey is much pronounced.
-Blue color on the collar comes down too low on the Yukijersey.
-Cream colored part of the collar that the string is threaded through is much wider on the official jersey.
-All stripes on the Yukijersey look too raised. It gives the impression that the stripes are seperate pieces of fabric sewn right on top of the jersey. Look at the IceJersey's link I provided before. Get a closeup of the bottom portion of the jersey. See how the striped areas are sewn from the inside of the jersey?
-Another dead giveaway of a knockoff: the numbers and letters look a little bubbly. Like there are pockets of air underneath. Look at the letters/numbers on the two links I provided below. Nice and smooth.
Personally, I'd stay away from Yukijersey.com. Just save a couple bucks and get a real one. I can pretty much guarantee you that around the last week of the season at the Garden, Winter Classic jerseys will be on sale for under $100.00

Yeah that was the one. Thanks! Saw another one go a few months ago for about $50 less so I guess I was expecting that ballpark. Still, now I have it and the hunt is done.
I recently saw a game-worn blue Liberty for Joel Bouchard. I wanted it so bad as it has my name (my last name is Bouchard) and is number 74 (my birth year is 1974). But over $500 and a size 56 is over my budget and way too big to actually wear. Still it was a gorgeous jersey and couldn't have been more appropriate for my first game-worn.

All of the inaccuraices noted are fair. That being said, you can get these for $35 if you buy with a few friends. The knock offs for the WC jerseys were far better /more accurate than the Heritage or home blue versions. I cannot justify $200+ for a jersey when you can get something "almost" as good for $35.
I would not wear these myself (I am a snob), but if you have a son who is still growing and always wants the newest thing, you can't beat it. You can get him/her 5 different jerseys for the normal cost of one.

Thanks! I assumed it was something along that way, and that Authentic was "game sized" which could be a problem since it's meant to be worn over equipment so I guess it can look kind of big if you're just wearing it casually. The reason I'm trying to get this straight is because I'd really like a jersey with real stiching (that's about a hundred times more awesome than printing), but at twice the price and confusion about sizes I really don't know :S

Keep searching eBay. I've grabbed some great deals and some rare jerseys for good prices. I regularly see blank authentic Starter blue Liberty jerseys going for around $50.00. If you let me know what kind of jersey you're looking for, I'll keep an eye out and PM you when I see one.
I'm currently still waiting on a customized WC Stepan jersey I ordered on 12/26, but after hearing a lot of negative things about the NHL.com store, should I cancel and order from elsewhere?

Is it authentic or a premier? If it's a premier than yes, see if you could get your money back and order from a site like SportsK.

I'd cancel. Go to Cosbys if you can, it's felt. Satisfied with mine.

Yeah... it's premier. The fine print says all sales on customized items are final. Oh, well. I'm sure I won't be disappointed in the end. It's my first Rangers jersey.
edit: You think there would be some reviews on there to steer people away. Usually I'm one for doing tons of research prior to a purchase, but I didn't think I could go wrong when I'm buying straight from the NHL store.

If anything, after you get the jersey call up and say you thought it was going to be stitched and that you're disappointed with how the jersey came out and ask for your money back. People have gotten their money back like that from them.
EDIT - Just saw that it was a WC jersey. Supposedly the WC ones from NHL.com were customized better than the other three Rangers jerseys so you may luck out there. I remember one person who got one said on here that it came out pretty solid for NHL.com standards.

Cool! My top picks would probably be 85th anniv. jerseys, regular blue, WC or something from the 90's (with Graves, Leetch, Messier on)
The current third jersey (available at the NHL shop), that's the same as the 85th anniversary one right, without the patch, or or is the blue darker on the 85h?
It will probably be a while until I get one, but until then I'll do my research so that I know what I'm gettin when it's time. Never paid much attention to jerseys before so it feels kind of complicated.
Also, if I'm getting an Authentic, what do you think about sizes. I'm not big so I'd try to find a small one but at the same time I'm 6"1' - how about arm lenght?
i got an idea for my nephew and need help. im looking for numbers to sew on hats anyone know where i can find them. if not does anyone know the ht and width specs for jersey number?

What's your weight? It also depends on the jersey. ProPlayer jerseys run much larger than their size. I'm 5'11, 190 and wear an XL or Large depending on the jersey maker.
Yeah the current third is the 85th Anniversary Heritage. But I heard that they're not making them with the 85th Anniversary patch anymore.
Good place to research is IceJerseyBB. Those guys know everything.

I realized 75% of that after posting. I glanced at it then looked again. I have the premiere and my girlfriend offered to do the same stitching as the authentics have. happy day

About 165 lbs. Searching for 85th anniversary jerseys on eBay gives a lot of hits but it seems to be all Premier priced around $270 - rather skip the patch then
Maybe I'll just go with Premier to start with, I guess they're pretty good too, and maybe a better fit. Just too hard to know, I can't go to a store and compare because here in Sweden NHL jerseys are nowhere to be found.
