He was never the same after the fight with James Neal 3 seasons ago. He's been squeezed out the lineup now with Players like Carter, Letestu, Prospal and Johansen coming in this season and with Huselius expected back soon, it could mean more games he's scratched. Bottom line, he's been bad.
The CBJ have been WOEFUL with their first round picks:
Klesla(2000), LeClaire(2001), Zherdev(2003), Picard(2004), Brule(2005), Voracek(2007), and Filatov(2008) are all gone since 2000, the team didn't have a first rounder last draft, it was traded in the deal for Carter.
Only Nash(2002), Brassard(2006), Moore(2009) and Johansen(2010) remain, and two of them are the two most recent first rounders (Johansen and Moore)
Its a systemic problem in Columbus. Something has always and remains to this day, broken, in the drafting and development arms of the front office.
Not playing as a center because he isn't that good at faceoffs. Not playing at wing because Johansen is better and Vermette is capable (somewhat) of being a third liner.
Flames fan here wondering what is up with him? I thought he was a young player with promise. Also seems like RJ is not himself either. What gives?
Seems to be the same malaise that's hit other folks like, say, Ovechkin and EStaal and a few others. Or, in other words, we don't know, but that won't stop people from speculating wildly in hopes of finding the solution.
He still shows flashes of promise, but hasn't put it all together and may never actually do so while he's here, as he's getting squeezed out.

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!
"While I have tremendous respect for (general manager) Scott Howson and the rest of Columbus' management team, the situation regarding Derick Brassard has become untenable. The coach has a history of burying players and using them as scapegoats to mask his own lack of success on the ice. Derick has been singled out, almost from the very beginning of the season, to be the fall guy in case things don't go well. The Columbus organization cares about Derick and has been good to him, but at some point, one has to say, enough is enough."

Best way to get into the lineup? Blast the coach through your Agent. Nice logic Derick.
Ive been a fan of his for a long time, but this is my breaking point. Trade his ass now before he becomes a cancer. Its either Arniel or its Brassard, and I guess we'll find out who comes out on top.

Agent is doing his job. Agents don't want their clients to rot on a bench and let their value wash away. Not saying who is right or wrong, but this is exactly what an agent should be doing for Brassard-protecting his career.
Not a fan of Brass, but really not a fan of Arniel. Trade one, fire the other. I don't like how this came out, but I have to agree with the agent. I do think Arniel makes player out to be scapegoats to hide his own failures.

Could it be because he has 2g, 2a, 4pts, -11 in 18 games? Or maybe it is because we are 3-13-2 when he plays and 3-2-1 when he doesn't? Sometimes players don't play, because the team is actually better when they don't.
Of course Sanford was channeling Patrick Roy during that 3-2-1 stretch. Lots of other guys played as poorly during the numbers cited for Brass. I agree with the agents comments. Arniel has buried him a la Commie.
Not much trade value to a guy who is sitting in the press box night after night.
I still think that there is some talent there, he just needs some guys to play with that can help him develop.
I recommend Alan Walsh to see how Commodore played... than in AHL too or now in Detroit before stupid comments.
It isinteresting... when Filatov gone to Russia he only said Hitch did not believe him but that is all. He said about him next only nice how many things he learned them etc. He never said anything bad against us when he was HS and than sent to AHL, never, whether in Russian or formspring. After his trade to Ottawa he said very nice about Columbus too that there were bad things but very many nice things and that he cannot say anything bad against Columbus, that his sending to AHL was right andhe cannot say anything against it. Even he said our arena is the prettiest together with Pens arena. And you hated him. And Brassard? Inspite of thinking about his achievments.... .
I am very dissapointed. Very. You played with Nash when Carter was injured and what did you show? Not too much. What did you show in the last season again, with Nash and Voracek? I always liked him but this.... .
I got into the NHL the year after Brassard came on the scene and got injured, and watching him since it's really hard to believe he ever was successful at all. He's always seemed the worst against the toughest teams, where he disappears like a boy in his father's shadow.
I've said it before, though, I really wonder what Brassard would've become in a more competent org. I read once that the emotional maturity of famous people often ends the year they get famous. That seems about what happens when young players end up on the CBJ. They never get any better, and really it seems like a victory when they avoid regressing too obviously. Another ruined prospect...
I'll say it again, just like I said it last season: trade him.
We don't need no more pretty skaters.
Unfortunatley ar $3.2 for 2 more years there's no market for him. Send him to Springfield. He would have to clear waivers but I doubt anyone will touch that contract.
