Did anyone see Franzen out- muscle Pietrangelo to get in front of our net earlier? Then on the Lidstrom goal he's standing right in front of Elliott , screening him and nobody can move him. Not saying Cole is necessarily the answer, but at least he's big and strong and hits hard. If 6'3" Pietro can't handle Franzen, Shatty and Russell won't be anymore successful. ( Yes, both those guys have other valuable qualities, esp. Shatty.) I really think this is a weakness of the Blues that will be exploited down the stretch and in to the playoffs, if not addressed.
You are quite right. The current Blues defence may allow them to "get by" during the regular season, but it won't be good enough to take them FAR into the playoffs. They can't wait for Cole to develop. They have to add more smooth-skating size and muscle to their back line.

I know we're short up front with injuries right now, but assuming tj (and maybe more) comes back friday, I think d'ags should sit. Two stupid unnecessary penalties that are benching worthy IMO. Not like he's been playing that well anyways..

But he did get credit for the first goal.

Honestly, I've been very pleased with this game in regards to respect towards the Blues. The intermissions have been discussing what the Blues are doing right instead of what Detroit is doing wrong. Pierre has been talking up our young players and being his usual, positive, if a little creepy, self. Only Doc has been slightly biased in his calls. And I'd say that's more due to his having more experience calling the Wings. He doesn't know the Blues very well (mispronouncing Perron, saying "Blues player" instead of a name, etc.), but I'm not going to hold it against him.

This is the first time in awhile I've felt a national broadcast take the Blues seriously against an established, top team.

And the Wings score...

Nice goal...Gotta finish this team off, can't let them have any breaks. The referees gave them enough...

They are giving it up... too tired. You can see it in how they skate.

The Blues didn't stop playing. They've been chasing Detroit all period.

I disagree, this felt very similiar to third period collapses of the past. We shelled up and played nothing but defense. We have had zero puck control the entire third.

This has felt absolutely nothing like third period collapses of the past.

They've been flat-out out-played.
