No idea, but I really want to know myself.

my guess is maybe he is a poor skater and/or bad defensively and/or soft

If neither, then I have no idea why he was still around in 8th round.

actually looking at penalty minutes he had 140 last seasons, so I doubt he is soft, but maybe he takes many dumb penalties.

Who do u think are the top 10 prospects in the NHL

Montoya and/or Lundqvist already addressed
Dawes AHL or WHL
Graham QJMHL
Baranka AHL
Jessiman NCAA
Callahan definatley not AHL
Kozak AHL
Paiement Not AHL
Petruzalek Europian team
Jonasen Tri- City WHL
plus probably several college prospects will sign before their eligibility ends Immonen and Prucha might also be there for a while.

out of all those players i most likely look foward to seeing Bruce Graham ( 6'6" 225LBS ), Hugh Jessiman ( 6'5" 220LBS ) 2 big boys with very good potential hope jessiman pans out though have a feeling graham will, and also , Petr Prucha and im also looking to see what all the hype is about baranka, i know he is a good prospect , but i would love to see if he is this #2-4 D-man everyone keeps bragging about.

if all those guys will or maybe will be coming up to start there pro carrers, then i would expect a fair amount of guys to make the NYR squad, some to be sent to charlotte and ofcourse expect some trades. if montoya and lunds are ready to go then expect labarbera to be moved, and valiquette to be traded or sent to charlotte.

i think if labarbera has another solid season we might be able to fetch a 3rd rounder for him , doubt a 2nd, but yes, most likely a 3rd.

but like i said i would expect alot of these kids to make the NHl NYR liuneup. cool with me.

he's talking about 2005-06...from that list jonasen is the only guy that has a chance to be in hartford this year, but the rest could all be there the following year

jonasen is currently in NYC attending wolfpack training camp and as far as i know he hasn't been sent back to tri-city yet. he still hasn't signed a contract but until he gets sent back the window is still open that he'll stick in hartford.

Also Graham and Callahan will have to either make the Rangers or be sent back to juniors next year so they won't be in Hartford until at least 2006-07.

he had 140 PIM last year which ranked 11th among Q dmen so that makes me think that he isn't soft (atleast not to an extent that it will be a problem)...

from what i can tell paiement is simply a late bloomer offensively (not too much different then pock). in his first 2 years in juniors, paiement had 30 points in 136 games then last year he had 65 points in 68 games, ranked 2nd among dmen in scoring and was named a 1st team allstar. and now this year he has 8 points in 4 games so far...

I should add...if the CHL - NHL agreement is re-instituted

they have 1985 birthday, so they should be in Hartford next season if signed.

maybe teams feared he was a one year wonder. It just seems to me that his numbers don't match up with with draft position.

Ah yes...for some reason I thought they were 86ers. Still I think we'll have to see if they do in fact end up there and if they'll be ready.

*Paiement is overage. He was draft-eligible in 2003 but went unclaimed. That alone will drop him in scouts' estimations, as lots of players do significantly better as 19 year olds than as 18 year olds. It seems to be especially prevalent in the Q. Hell, Giroux almost tripled his point totals (37 pts at 18: 99 points at 19) at that age.

*He did all that scoring on a good team, so scouts think maybe it's Matt Kinch sydnrome. (i.e. Maybe he's scoring because he's dishing the puck to very talented forwards rather than generating offense on his own.

*Forget it Jake, it's the Q. If Paiement had put those numbers up for the Brandon Wheat Kings, it might be a different story

*His size isn't an issue. He's not a soft player at all. I haven't heard anything about his skating, but I don't think the Rangers would have drafted him, even with an 8th, if skating was a concern. (Offensive d-men who skate poorly are worthless.) That leaves hockey sense and/or decision making as areas of possible concern. I'm sure scouts saw Paiement a lot while watching Picard, so they would recognize flaws in his game that don't show up in the stats.

*He plays for the Lewiston MAINEiacs, the team with the stupidest name in all of junior hockey (and one of the dorkier logos, too). If I was a GM, that would cost him a round or two on my list.

*That being said, every draft has produces around 2 or 3 NHL players out of the 8th round, and Paiement has as good a chance of bieng one of them as the other 29 players chosen in that round (although the odds lean more toward him veing another Pat Auferio.
