Just checked the box score for last night's Niagara - Erie OHL game to see how Stromer did. 1 primary assist in a 2-1 loss. The best part? Niagara outshot Erie 62-17. 61 saves on 62 shots for the Erie goalie.

If you could bet on OHL games (maybe you can, I don't know), you would have made a killing betting on an Erie win last night. They're so awful it's almost unbelievable. Last night was their 8th win of the season, at the 53 game mark.
Thanks. When I attended the Isles Prospects Game, Kichton was very good along the offensive blueline in terms of not flubbing passes back to the point. He received passes extraordinarily well and played the power play with a ton of poise even if no scoring chances came up. Is this something you notice about his game as well?
Yes. The biggest factor in his offense is his poise and ability to read plays. In terms of his abilities on the PP, I think a big name comparable (he'll never get there, but it's the same style) is Brian Rafalski.

Erie should get "Blue Jackets" jerseys next season
feels good to take a shot at another franchise for a change, especially as an Isles fan.
Hockeys Future named Mayfield #5 in thier top 10 NCAA Defencemen.
Nice, I saw a little bit of him in the Minnesota-Denver game last week or so. He looked HUGE out there and his skating looked pretty good. Only caught a glimpse as he took a knee-on-knee hit and went to the locker room.
I figure he won't be on the Isles radar until next year at the earliest, probably 2 years.

I have to imagine there is many defensemen at this point in time(ie him being a Freshman) who are better defensemen then Mayfield. Are they going on the basis of actual play this season or prospect?

5. Scott Mayfield, Freshman, University of Denver
NHL Rights: New York Islanders
Drafted: 2nd Round, 34th overall, 2011
Someone once said that through adversity comes opportunity. And it's a fitting description for Scott Mayfield's freshman campaign thus far.
The St. Louis, MO native's season got off to a strong start to his 2011-12 campaign. He posted his first collegiate career point (an assist) in the Pioneers' season-opener versus Boston College on October 14th and posted his first goal a week later versus Minnesota State-Mankato on October 22nd. On the season thus far, Mayfield has posted seven points (two goals, six assists) playing in 29 games.
Two of Mayfield's attributes that were noticeable almost immediately were his rugged style and strong skating ability. As his season progressed, Mayfield's use of his 6'4, 200 pound frame became increasingly evident, particularly in protecting the puck.
When the Pioneers were hit with injuries to two of their key defensemen in senior John Ryder and sophomore David Makowski, that opened the door for Mayfield to have an expanded role and increased ice time, particularly on the power play. Mayfield displays great poise with the puck, but his sometime ill-advised decisions with it, such as holding on to the puck too long, were also apparent. However, it's an area that should gradually improve as his collegiate career and development progresses.
I really hope against hope Petrov comes over. I fore one want to see both Kirills make an impact with the Islanders some day but more so with Petrov.
Petrov and Nelson are my two current prospects that I could see really helping the Islanders be a consistent contender.
sooo weird..i was just checking his stats just now..I didn't even log onto the forum and low and behold everyone else is talking about him. I think he's gonna be good..better than the other Kirill.
Pretty good night for Strome tonight. 2g 1a tonight in a 3-0 Niagara win.
Pedan with 1g 2a with a +3 in a 9-1 rout.
strome's line is 10 gp, 6g, 12 a, 18 pts, +11 since returning from the world juniors. he has at least a point in every game in that span. it seems as though that tournament was huge for his development. can anyone think of another islander prospect who could have used that tourney to develop some confidence?

Say what you will (and Rags fans fight me to the death on it) Snow has drafted really well. We have yet to see the classes bare their fruit just yet but you can see the light at the end of the tunnel
Man, Sundstrom probably could have had a hattrick yesterday. Had about 5 glorious chances in 19:51 of ice time, a career high for him. He needs to work on his finishing and he will be a solid 2nd liner in the NHL.

Sweet, Isles have great prospect depth down the middle.
I liked Ullstrom's games up with the Isles this year although I'm happy he's back in BP now playing a big role in their success. I would pencil him in for a full time spot next year. Cizikas plays with such a great level of determination that nothing would surprise me going forward.
The only thing I don't like is the Isles trying to work 3 young players into the lineup all at the same time. Cizikas, Ullstrom and Nino. Plus the poetential of a yound D or two. I know Nino's been with the Isles all year but he is still extremly raw and under-developed at this point
I honestly dont remember this many legitimate prospects up and down the organization. The days of Juraj Kolnik and Justin Papineau are long gone.
There are waves and waves of prospects that should be pushing out the useless vets starting perhaps next year....but over the next five years, we should see a huge influx of talent. Its mind boggling to think that our 20th ranked prospect has a legitimate shot at making the NHL.
Near Term (Next year or two):
-Kiril Petrov (if he ever decides to come over)
-Casey Cizikas
-David Ullstrom
-Rhett Rahkshani
-Aaron Ness
-Matt Donovan
-Calvin DeHaan
-Kevin Poulin
Medium Term (2 to 3 years away):
-Kiril Kabanov
-Anders Lee
-Brock Nelson
-Johan Sundstrom
-Ryan Strome
-Brendan Kichton
Longer term (3 to 5 years away):
-Scott Mayfield
-Andre Pedan
-Robbie Russo
-Mikko Koskinen
-Anders Nilsson
Even if half of those guys ever make it (and im expecting more than that), that is a hugggeee influx that i dont think this franchise has ever seen.
My only question is the amount of elite talent in the bunch. How many "game breakers" are there potentially really? Petrov? Strome? DeHaan? Lee?!
It will certainly be interesting to see what happens, as Garth and Co. have a lot of decisions to make over the next few years of who to keep, who to trade, and who to give up on.
