Persson does not get enough love or respect around here, kid is almost a point per game player for a second year in a row, although his +/- is troubling.

Nelson, Lee, Mayfield

Should the Islanders sign Brock Nelson, Anders Lee and Scott Mayfield at the end of this years college season or wait till next season? All 3 would bring much needed skill and size into the organization right away.

thought........

Judging from what I've read and the very little I've seen, Anders should be in Bridgeport next year, Nelson I think will play one more at UND, and Mayfield needs 2+ years at Denver at least. No love for Robbie Russo?

I was focusing on the college players with size and skill especially after tonights loss in Philly and the next game against Boston.

Take your time with these kids. Not as high on Mayfield, worried about his decision making. From what I have seen, he is a big liability with the puck in his own end. Despite his skating ability and size, there is not much else there that I am excited about.

Mayfield has the tools, but it's still too early to get a gauge on him. He'll need at least 3 full years at Denver, maybe even the 4th. The thing about him that I like the most is his willingness to be physical. That's something sorely needed on the Isles and you either have it or you don't. If he pans out, opposing players best keep their heads up when entering the offensive zone.

Better for him. Let him develop in the SEL. No need to rush him.

Probably for the better development-wise. He couldn't go to AHL anyway this year, right? Gives him time to get his game developed, in a pro atmosphere.

I hope this doesn't mean he's going to stay in Sweden forever, he's a very underrated prospect.

Sundstroms contract has an NHL clause in it, I believe. Someone had posted that earlier

He actually can play in the AHL here because he is coming straight from europe. The age rule only counts for players in North american juniors and college prospects.

If you had to choose to keep one prospect over another, who do you keep and who do you let go? obviously hypothetical...

Nelson or Lee?

Kabanov or Petrov?

Nilsson or Poulin?

De Haan or Donovan?
Nelson
Kabanov
Poulin
Tough call. If De Haan stays healthy, he's the clear choice.

Brock Nelson is going to be a stud for the Islanders. Just within the past couple years of going to Sioux games, he has progressed tremendously, and has become a force to be reckoned with. Not sure if he will stay around for next year, but if he goes pro, the Islanders have one heck of a prospect on their hands

I posted that, and that was based on information in the Swedish press about Sundstrom's signing (I'm not sure whether a NHL clause is included in the standard contract after the signing of a transfer agreement between the NHL and the Swedish leagues - that would make sense, I think).

I still think Sundstrom has to be signed by the NYI in 2013 for the Islanders to keep his rights.

I don't think he gets the respect he's due. I think he's the Islanders best prospect, I'd even rate him over Strome.

I went to the last 2 rookie scrimmages. In 2010, Nelson looked gangly and did not look like a good skater. He did show signs of talent though. I believe he scored on a penalty shot.

In 2011's rookie scrimmage, a totally different player, he was bigger, stronger, faster, played with a ton of confidence as he and Anders Lee dominated the game while playing on the same line.

I've seen some of his college games this year, and he looks faster than last year, stronger, and he is obviously well coached, immediately goes to the front of the net when on the power play. Makes the right decisions, and is defensively aware. I could definitely see him on the second line with the Isles as either a center or wing.

I think Strome is more offensively gifted, but needs to work on his strength in the off season. I pray we go with D in the draft, with Strome, Nelson, Lee, Petrov, Kabanov, Sundstrom, Ullstrom, Cizikas, Persson, etc, I think we are set at forward as far as prospects. We don't have any stud D prospects.

No question our offensive prospects are light years ahead of our D prospects, but you still take best player available whenever you draft. If we can't draft Erik Johnson then I'd rather take Chris Stewart and trade him for Johnson then draft a lesser prospect than Stewart.

This is exactly right!!!! Whoever is the BPA when the Isles draft should be chosen regardless if they are a forward or defenseman. Personally, I would be happy to come away from this draft with any of the following players in this order--Yakupov, Grigorenko, Murray, Galchenyuk, Dumba, Trouba & Forsberg. It is almost a certainty that we will draft in the top 7 and at least one of these players will be available, which should help with our overall depth and give the Islanders many options as far as trades are concerned to acquire a needed player.

There is only one problem with always going BPA, and that is winding up with the same player role every time. We've had nothing but high end forwards, two of whom look like possible busts. The one gamble with CdH might go horribly awry. If you do try to move one of the forwards you will quickly discover that a forward is not equal to a defenseman of the same caliber. The defenseman is considerably higher in value. So you may well be better off dropping for a defenseman.

Regardless, I think one of the biggest mistakes in Islander drafting was one of the two:

1) Not coughing up a lopsided trade in the 08 draft to grab Pietrangelo or Bogosian.
2) Not doing the same last draft to grab Larsson.

Big, huge, massive blunders.
