Ak Bars Kazan eliminated last seasons champion Salavat Yulaev Ufa in the first round of the KHL playoffs last night. Petrov scored Ak Bars second goal, and was out on the ice in the final minute as they held on for the 3 - 2 win. I believe that says a lot about what his coach thinks of his game.
Yes...here's the icetime you deserve...please don't leave us!!!

Great to hear that Petrov is having success. Hopefully he comes over for good this summer.
What do you guys think the upsides of the following players are:

What do you guys think the upsides of the following players are:
Strome
Cizikas
Nelson
Petrov
Strome -2nd line Center/Wing
Cizakic-3rd line Center but see Thomas Plekanec as a possibility
Nelson- 2nd/3rd line Center, winger
Petrov-No idea, seen him play very little
Now that Notre Dame has been eliminated. Wang and Snow should be on the phone with Andres Lee's agent and getting him signed now. He would be a great asset to Bridgeport for the playoff run and gain some experience at the same time before camp next year.

Take a look at the article in newsday. U sure ND is eliminated? They played game two already?

Yeah Newsday said he may have just played his final game in NCAA hockey. Snow better not screw this one up!! Sign him and throw him in Bridgeport and he can be one of the many guys we will call upon next season when Okposo and Bailey gets sent to the press box.

I am looking forward to seeing Petrov play but he isnt exactly tearing up the league. Ill guess you know more then I do but AK Bars did not give him any ice time. He rarely played more then 10 games for them in 2008-2011. Maybe this is an error on the site below?

Nelson - Honestly, Yashin without the stigma, maybe even a poor man's Joe Thornton. I kid you not.
Petrov - A poor man's Radulov.
Now, do want to hear about the downside too (aside from "bust")?
Chapin, Cizikas is a much better skater than Handzus who i saw a lot of when he was the the F'ers. Casey also has better hands but is not as good in draws.
Dude, if Nelson is as good as Yashin and or Thornton talent wise we are looking at an elite center. Yashin was more of a goal scorer with very good set up skills while Joe is an elite set up guy who doesnt finish much. I can oly hope you are close on either count but that would be asking a LOT from a 2nd round pick.
Thornton will go into the Hall of Fame and Yashin could have if he chose to play 100%.

I think of Todd Bertuzzi when looking for a comparison for Nelson. Nelson is more of a goal scorer than a playmaker and he'll have imposing size when he fills out. Maybe it's because they were both drafted by the Isles with late first rounders, but there are a lot of similarities. Size, skill, skating, style are all very comparable between them.

Sorry PW, but I don't see that comparison at all...... I remember when Bertuzzi was drafted coming out of Guelph.. He was a bruiser and power forward back then as an 18 year old.. Was always considered a power forward... Nelson is a skinny kid who is still growing into his man muscles, but he is far from a bruising/power type player that Bertuzzi is.... Nelson seems like more of your typical skill player who happens to be tall.

I guess my memory has betrayed me. I thought Bertuzzi was a big bodied skill player in Juniors. Then who the hell am I thinking of? In any case, I think Bertuzzi type of power forward is a reasonable projected upside for Nelson now. Maybe not as nasty, but skill wise. I wonder if Nelson will stay at center though, hasn't he been mostly a winger this year for ND? My brain is still an hour behind today.

I maybe would agree with this based on what I read but did you watch the prospect camp last summer? The Nelson and Lee line were constantly in your face and creating scoring chances right in front of the crease almost every shift. Both looked like strong power forward types.
But that was the only time Ive seen Nelson and i know he brings some skill too. I watched a couple ND games and Lee still played that style which was fun to watch.

I sure as heck hope you are right, because I have to watch another skilled ***** in a big guy's body like Kyle Okposo I'm going to vomit. If this kid doesn't throw some hate around the rink frankly, trade his ass now.

I did not see any of the prospect camp.. and actually, you bringing up Lee struck a cord with me.. Anders Lee reminds me alot of Bertuzzi.. same exact build and style of play.. Lee is naturally alot thicker and more physical than Nelson.. I'm not saying Nelson can't be physical, but he's a different type of player than Lee/Bertuzzi..... and NO, I am not saying Lee will put up Bertuzzi numbers, just very very similar build and style of play....
Should be interesting to see if Lee AND Nelson are both signed.... I think Lee is a definite, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he makes the team straight out of camp and bypasses the year in Bridgeport most are predicting..
I think Nelson could use one more year of college hockey to fill out... but this is the Islanders..
Anders Lee in 2012/2013
Kiril Petrov in 2012/2013
Brock Nelson in 2013/2014
Ryam Strome in 2013/2014
Nino Neiderreiter in 2013/2014 (I mean a legit/ready to contribute Nino)
add those 5 to a core of Tavares and any combo of (Grabner, Neilsen, Okposo, Bailey, P.A., and Moulson) that are still here... I like the sound of that...
sprinkle in Ryan Murray or Dumba with one (LEGIT) free agent D man, Hamonic, De Haan, McDonald, Donovan and Mayfield, Pedan in a few years.... like it.

You were probably thinking of Brad Dalgarno or Brett Lindros, who were both thought of that way. Bertuzzi was thought of as a project at the time and not necessarily a very physical player. Remember that when Bertuzzi was a rookie and into his second year the Isles asked Clark Gillies to work with him and get him to play tougher. Bertuzzi kind of rebelled against this and that was why they gave up on him so quickly.

I hope I am right too. My time watching them play is very small and was a while ago. But that is what stuck out most about their games. Hopefully soon enough we will know. I won't even try comparing either to Kyle or get into that debate. He has flaws in his physicality and I will leave it at that.
Kabanov with 1g 2a and a +4 in a 6-2 win against the mighty Saint John Sea Dogs.
I am impressed with KK's game. It translates well to the pro game. He has good size but needs to fill out about 10 more pounds. He is playing at 200 or so.
I like that he does not shy from physical play and works the borads and behind the net well, battles in front for good position, but his skills of speed and hands make him a dangerous offesnive threat anywhere on the ice.
