Going pro and playing 20 minutes a night in the AHL is not a rush job. Like I mentioned there is no way he wouldn't be ready for the next level after he has offensively dominated the league for 2 years in a row. I don't think there is any doubt he is signed. His numbers speak for himself.
And if anyone needs an OA year it is John Persson.
I just re-read the article on Kichton's injury and I see that it's only a 2-3 month recovery period. For some reason I thought the article said it would be a 4-5 month recovery period, which is why I was questioning whether or not he would be able to make the jump to the AHL. Now that I've straightened out the facts, I realize that the broken jaw shouldn't hamper his progress.
I dont think so. He isn't even on the clear day list. If he was eligible for the playoffs down there he most def would have been on that list.
No. Junior and NCAA players don't need to be added to the clear day roster. Nino is eligible after Portland is eliminated. However, Portland is stacked so that may not happen for a long time.

No, you are correct with the rule but Nino is another animal.
Quote:
The NHL CBA says that if a player is on the NHL roster at the trade deadline, he can’t be sent down. Even if you can find a loophole there, the AHL considers him an NHL player at this point after Clear Day, so no.
I think it is possible he will be a bust and yes I know he played well in the world Jrs but he was playing along some of the best youngsters...just saying...I hope he is not but Nino's future does not look great...I think they have stunted his ability

I wouldnt say bust, but I dont see him being the 70-80 pt player some have said...I see a very solid 50-60 pt 2nd line center and 2nd pp centre...

You're kidding. This kid has not even played his first professional game yet in the AHL and you are projecting his disappointing numbers and pidgeon holing him?

Some Islander fans
Prediction from armchair scouts:Ness is too little for the nhl.
2011-2012: Ness plays several games in the NHL and looks very good. His swift and elusive skating helps him avoid hits.
Prediction from armchair scouts:Kabanov won't even get an nhl contract.
July 2011,the Isles signed Kabonov to an ELC.Today Newsday has a prospect article, saying he'll be at Bridgeport next season.
Gotta take the opinions of armchair scouts and gms, with a grain of salt.
I see no reason to think Strome will be a bust. I'd bet money he will be an NHL player at some point and likely bottom of the top 6.
Where I'd be unhappy is that the Islander's left Hamilton on the table, who I thought looked like an obviously better pick at the time, but who IS now an obviously better pick. What scout in our vaunted collection of freelancers made this mistake? I hope they didn't trust the guy from Redline Report's staff. I suspect he's the one who also made the Nino over Fowler screw up.

It is far too premature to say who is the better prospect at this point. Hamilton is looking really good, but Strome has been no slouch this season also. Different players and different skill sets. Let's see how both do in the NHL before we say it was the right/wrong choice.
A hypothetical question that popped into my head, does signing Petrov make Nino expendable? I feel like they are similar players, but Petrov is ahead in his development.

Petrov is 23,Nino is 19.Petrov should be further along in his development.
I would think the isles would want to see Petrov come over, produce and at least give them the impression he wants to stay long term.
