Interesting article on the KHL and how typically corrupt and controlling the team owners are- or should we say gangsters. Petrov's Ak Bars Leopards are one such team mentioned:
“One guy I know, playing for the KHL team in Kazan, was arrested after the team had (marijuana) planted on him,” says Simpson, who now lives in Chicago. “They took him to jail, wanted to sweat him out, pressure him to agree to go back to Canada without getting paid.”
If this article doesn't fill you in just exactly what the players, and the NHL teams who own their NHL rights are up against here, then this is a must-read for you.
Petrov is playing out his last year, and like most hockey players around the world, dreams of one day playing in the NHL. Fans of the New York Islanders can take solace in the fact that Kirill has expressed his interest in one day fulfilling that dream.

If the KHL was that bad, no player would risk playing there; even for the millions thrown at them.
No way the KHL is in the NHL's class, but that author obviously has an agenda.
I hope Rhett gets at least 20-30 games up with the club. I really like the kid and think he'd do well at this level. Maybe a line with him, Nino and Ullstrom. They'd need at least 10-12 min per game to do any damage though. Rhett's effort is good and he always digs for the puck and can get it to either Ullstrom or Nino.

Rhett has always been quietly under the radar as a prospect who has a nose for the net and a high compete level. I would really hope that the kid is the next call up behing Ullstrom.
This issue with Rhett is always going to be his size. Even in his few games up here he has looked out man'd. Hopefully its a matter of strength rather than size but we shall see.

Yeah, why should people believe a reputable newspaper and sports journalist over you and your opinion?
For that matter, why should people believe everyone interviewed in the article, as opposed to someone who's never even set foot inside Russia?
Former NHL player Alexei Zhitnik told the Los Angeles Times in 1993: "I have a little problem with mafia. They say things like, `blow up your car.' ... The cops can't do anything. No rules. No laws."
Just this fall, a Russian journalist, Magomed Yevoyey, was shot in the head and killed in the back of a police cruiser while being taken to a police station, although police called his death an accident. And in a development tarnishing the KHL, the goalie for the league's team in Riga, Latvia, was mugged walking home from the rink after a game.

I caught a little of the North Dakota - Minnesota game last night. Brock Nelson looks terrific. The announcer said he leads the country (college hockey) in powerplay goals.

I noticed a difference in Nelson statistically in the second half of his freshman season. But where I really notice a difference, was 2011's rookie scrimmage in July. He was dominant. Size, hands, checking, and improved skating. He has a lot of talent, and getting bigger and getting ice time has given him a ton of confidence. I think if he reaches his potential, definite 2nd line forward, at worst, 3rd line center.

This would be a fantastic line. Ullstrom and Rhett have proven chemistry and could get Nino going together. Rhett will be an NHL player.

If we are still a lottery team by the trade deadline, I think Snow has to shop Neilsen and Parenteau. If they are dealt, some of our kids at the Bridge might get some time at the NHL level. I'd definitely like to see Rhett get a shot.

I guess everyone has an "agenda".
A respected author? The guy is a Canadian who does nothing but write anti-KHL/Russia pieces. And its funny he can't even get the geography of Russia correct in his article.
That article was torn to shreds on the Russian board because of its sensationalism and ridiculous inaccuracies.
Go put your above post on the Russian forum. Really, go ahead and do it. I guarantee you will be laughed off the board.
I really can't believe people believe biased media like this. But it's the KHL, they have to be the corrupt enemy keeping the almighty Petrov down, right?

Ok, back to prospects.....
so why don't you let us know what's real and what's not?
Hopefully they leave him in the A for the season, but I don't see how Cizikas doesn't start next season on our 3rd or 4th line. I'm pretty certain he is the reason we haven't seen an extension for Nielsen.
9 goals, 28 points in his first 40 pro games, with a team-best +14 rating (next best is Rakhshani with +12, then a +5 (Frischmon is -15) while taking a team-high 79 shots.
Went and watched the Tigers play today. Rhett looks good, does nothing spectacular but many things well. Don't know how that is going to transfer to the NHL or if he is just going to be a really good AHL player? Casey Cizitkas(or however you spell it) was agressive and look good. Still would like to see him play the whole year in the A. Now Donovan looked good. This is my 3rd Tigers game and I could definetly see the maturity/comfort level with this kid. Hopefully by next season he can be a regular for the Islanders. Ness is fast and a quick passer but he still looks small to me. Ullstrom will be a regular next year if not back this year. Wishart was meh, just wish he would be a little more physical. Nilsson was really good not great and I like that he made some big saves in the 3rd period with the game on the line. And I know he is not a prospect, but Michael Haley can be on my team any day. Oh yeah and they won again. I know 3 games is a small sample but I have spread them out and will make at least 1 more before the year is done.
Solid write up and I have to agree with most of it. However, I do have to say I am really really upset with de Haan and the injuries to the young mans shoulders.
That aside I would like to believe that Cizikas could see sometime with the Islanders towards the end of this season. Get a taste of the NHL before coming into camp and locking down the third line center role.
That being said I wonder if Nelson and Lee will continue to play college hockey. Donovan and Ness both left college early and I wonder if that will be the same career path for Brock and Anders?

As did Okposo.
And according to IPB, the Isles wanted to sign Trivino already after his freshman season and again this past summer, so it stands to reason that both Lee and Nelson could be in the fold perttttty doggone soon.

Resign Nielsen and have Cizikas take that 4th line role and let him work his way up. I want to believe Reasoner can play like he used to but I'm afraid what we see is what we'll get with him right now.

Agreed.
To be honest, I don't think we're seeing Reasoner on the Island next season. There's already talk of him landing in Europe.... He might have the second year of his contract bought out.

Anders Lee has really cooled off the last 3 months to say the least. I am not as high on him as others, but Nelson I do think will be a very good NHL player.

3 months takes us back to October 19th? ND season started Oct. 3rd, tough crowd. Lee Leads the 5th ranked team in goal scoring and is second overall. Top forward in +/-, now being paired to shut down opposing teams first line offense. I would not be overly concerned when you understand Coach Jackson's system. ND's conference the CCHA is the toughest conference in College Hockey this year with the top 8 strength of schedules with ND at #4. Regardless of the player, simply looking at their score sheet does not always tell the whole story. Stay the course.

Agreed. The points don't hold that much weight with me when it comes to Anders Lee. I see him as part of this team's future 3rd line, so IMO he doesn't need to be scoring at a PPG clip, he just needs to be working hard and playing solid 2-way hockey.
