Well Holmgren came out and said nobody was interested in trading anyone, and then brought Walker up from the Phantoms. There hasn't even been a hint of scouting or potential trade discussions since then.
Besides, if they do trade for anyone they're going to have to give up players that the Flyer's front office isn't willing to part with (Schenn, Read, Couturier, Voracek, JVR, etc.)
It's pretty unreasonable for Carolina or Anaheim to expect to receive Schenn, Couturier, etc for a good (not great) defenseman whose contract is expiring at the end of the season.
I think on paper our defense corps is good enough, even without Pronger. Unfortunately, on ice things don't quite match, but I doubt getting another defenseman will change that.
I'd say if we were to go with people less than 3M, I'd say Grossman, Gleason, Peckham, Hannan or Gill. Gleason does sound good though. We'd have to dump some big enough salary onto them to get him. Walker, Marshall/Lilja and a 3rd? But I'm sure I'd get ragged on for the idea of quantity over quality for that trade.

In a deal like that, Holmgren would have to sweeten the pot considerably to receive a player like Gleason and dump a cap anchor like Lilja. Not a top prospect, but perhaps Read or a 1st.
i would love to get a minute eating defenseman to talk the load off Timonen's TOI but I also dont want to overpay for one. Teams know the position the Flyers are in and I am we wouldnt get one cheap.
To be honest, I'd be happy with a guy like Shane O'Brien or Greg Zanon. Both defensively aware and will strengthen the bottom pairing which is really all that's needed right now. Plus they are both on nice cap friendly expiring contracts.

Gleason or Brewer would work for me. Gleason brings a whole lot of snarl to his game and Brewer is just a good defensive presence who can eat up a ton of minutes and allow a guy like Carle to roam offensively.
The only problem with a Brewer is that he's signed long term, so you can bet Tampa would be looking for a first in return as well as a top prospect.
The problem with Gleason is that he's the type of defenseman the Flyers need - a gritty and nasty thumper who plays a defensive role - but as long as Holmgren's enamored with Carle, Gleason will end up walking.
Ok, I have heard rumblings obviously about Gleason to Philly, and these two have been trading partners many times. Obviously the Canes need some type of wingers with some skill. I am sure you are all going to go bananas on me, but what else would it take:

Gleason and ?

Schenn
Gleason and 2012 1st

Schenn
Anything short of your 1st as the "+" and it's not happening.
Gleason is a rental top-4 defenseman... his value is nowhere close to Schenn, who was the principal piece of the Richards deal.

That's just not true. For a guy like Gleason, a pick and a minor prospect will do it. None of those gems you're referring to.
I have no issue trading Schenn. He can't stay healthy and when playing, has failed to produce! Offensively the Flyers don't really need another forward so IMO the Flyers should move Scheen while he still have value for a younger top end D-man that they need.
