LOVE IT! I hope they just want to get him some games and see how he does. Sit Woywitka for a few games and see how Erixon does. If he does well, keep him. If not, send him back down.
I am thinking Torts is getting a little worried playing Girardi and McDonagh 25+ minutes a night. Hopefully Erixon and Stralman can help the PP as well.
Last year during 24/7 we got to see the Penguins call up and send down a player, it was interesting. I hope they show the interactions on our show too.
Erixon Stralman could be a very smooth pairing. They also could compound each others weaknesses and be brutal. Theyre both a lot better than Witwikki though.
Woywitka earned himself a ticket to Hartford last night. Not surprised.
Maybe Erixon pulls a McDonagh and stays the whole season...
Woywitka has generally been pretty good. He was hardly the only player to make a soft play in our own zone, it was just the only one that led a goal.
McDonagh's giveaway against Tampa was far more egregious IMO. So let's not overreact to one bad play that resulted in a goal in a game where we failed to score against a goalie playing in his 3rd NHL game.
Woywitka for the most part has been serviceable. Last night he was not very good but brutal seems a little harsh. He made a bad play on the only goal of the game which happened very late--so it's not very surprising for some people here to be very angry with him.
But it's not like he's a core member of the team. He's more of a bubble player with a limited NHL future.
Erixon on the other hand is nothing but future and seems to have responded very well after being sent down. A couple things needed tweaking--he relied a little too much on being cerebral--a more passive than aggressive defense--and just overall strength seems to need a bit of work. 12 points in 13 AHL games may have renewed his confidence in his ability to create at least some offense which was lacking at the beginning of the year.
I guess it's mainly insurance for the road trip, but I wouldn't mind seeing him in the games. Woywitka has been ok (yeah he made a bad play last night, but overall he has done what was expected of him) but Erixon has so much more potential. I'd like to see how he has adapted.
