Chicago at 5 is an interesting choice.

Geeeez, look at the key injuries next to each team. The number of concussions - and concussions to key players - is just INSANE.

They have GOT to do something about this.

I laughed because they are first in the league. I love the fact that the 3 O6 teams at the top of the league are those that get the least respect because of their low cup count.

all these rankings from all these media outlets are all baloney. completely subjective.

the only rankings that count are the ones that you can find on nhl.com

i went through and selected a team comprised entirely of players out with concussions. it's pretty depressing to look at:

Hawks at 5 is a headscratcher. They should be at 2 behind Bruins.

Regarding concussions, Milbury actually made a good observation on Versus pregame. He mentioned that all the rule changes (i.e. enforcements) for interference, hooking, etc, plus losing the red line for 2-line offsides has made players come down the ice with a ton more speed. Hence, more impacting collisions.

not to totally derail this thread, but the elimination of the two line pass rule + the inability to grab onto or hook an offensive player is 100% the reason we have concussion issues today. unfortunately, the goalie pads are so much bigger now than they were in the 90s so if you put the game back to how it was in the 90s with the interference, hooking, and no two line passes we'd have a bunch of 0-0 and 1-1 games ending in shootouts. that's why, unfortunately, i think the only way to cut down on concussions right now without ruining the game is to make the ice a little bigger.

Nothing has changed except the standards for testing. They are erring on the side of caution.

If they start changing the rules, I'm done with the sport (not really). Hopefully that won't happen.

It's not a choice. TSN's power rankings are 100% stat generated.

Additionally, by using statistics alone to generate the rankings, there should be no illusions of bias or favouritism affecting the rankings.

The players are bigger, stronger and faster than ever before. Testing standards have certainly evolved, but I think there's a large physical component as well.
