Hard to watch this game. The Wings couldn't complete a pass, couldn't skate 10 feet without coughing up the puck, even Datsyuk was skating straight into traffic and losing the puck, etc. Ericsson looked like he was trying to score on his own net. Kronwall is still wandering off away from the net. Ridiculous officiating gives Toews a penalty shot and the Hawks a 5-1 PP edge.

And yet they still had a chance to win it late because they got a couple lucky bounces, and even hit two or three posts along the way.

I know this wasn't Flip's best game (he made a really weak whiff on Hossa and left him wide open for the 2nd goal), but should Miller really be getting more ice time than Flip? Under any circumstances?

Hossa
Seabrook
Nyquist

This game sucked terrible officiating and just bad play.
Hossa was probably the bet player on the ice tonight.

Nyquist looked good given his line mates.
Bert had the lucky goal (nice to see Commie contributing on offense BTW) but he's back to his October sucktastic self and Franzen has just been awful lately.

Need that two against the Blues tomorrow.

Miller and Cleary have been 2 of our best players lately.

The refs completely ruined this game. It sucks cause this was supposed to be a good game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm the guy that has said Miller should be in the lineup every night because he's more valuable than most people realize. I just think Flip is one of the team's best scorers, he has been a big part of their success (when they've had it) so far this year, and he's a key contributor in all situations. I don't get the strategy of giving Miller more minutes than Flip.

Not Howard's best game I think he should've had the Hossa and Seabrook goal, but especially the Seabrook goal.

I think the Hawks were easily the better team last night, they were jacked. They still view every Detroit game as a measuring stick (regardless of what the people around here feel to believe).

The Hawks are a really good team and probably better than Detroit right now but they have some major leaks (like every team). Crawford was good last night but he's been terrible all season.

I think if Detroit is able to make a few good deals at the deadline we'll be right there no problem.

I wouldn't say Crawford has been terrible all season. He started hot but Q likes to ride goalies and Crawford is NOT a 67 game a year guy (pace he was on when Emery replaced him for 2 weeks) he got burned out and some say he had a hamstring issue.
What hurts about watching this game is they are both skill teams and Chicago has had terrible ice all season for some reason. As a Hawk fan ... It's a shame to put together a team like this and make them play in slush.

Any idea why Babcock played him less?

I think Howard has not played so well on the road. I have no explanation why.

The team as a whole plays considerably better at home.

The whole team looked like their skates were dull for most of this game. Part of that can be chalked up to the number of rookies in the lineup and the fact that they were missing their best skater and their best-skating rookie (and the presence of Ericsson, no doubt). But it's troubling that they have these kinds of efforts so often on the road.

howard's numbers are not bad at all on the road.

home: .934, 1.76, 14-2-1 (26.6 shots against per game)
road: .918, 2.25, 8-7 (26.8 shots against per game)

big difference is offense is much weaker on the road.

home GFA: 4.12
road GFA: 2.45

PP% at home: 22.2
PP% on road: 17.8

filppula: 21p at home vs 8p on road.
lidstrom: 16 vs 7
hudler: 14 vs 8
white: 12 vs 7
kronwall: 11 vs 6
holmstrom: 10 vs 5

franzen: 18 vs 13

datsyuk: 19p at home vs 19p on road
zetterberg: 14 vs 11
cleary: 8 vs 10
bertuzzi: 9 vs 8

rest of the team on 2nd list.

only 7 plus players on road:

commodore: +2 (4 road games)
cleary: +1

2nd unit has worst minuses on road.

A .918 save % and a 2.25 gaa is still really good.

Among goalies with 20 or more appearances this year, it'd be the 6th best gaa and the 11th best sv%. 2/3 of the teams in the league would love a workhorse starting goalie who could give them those numbers both at home and on the road. He can't be blamed for the offense's struggles on the road.
