When Lupul got his blood infection he was out for a year and then had a long road back to play to his potential.

Fingers crossed for Higgins that he can get his health sorted out soon. The Canucks can wait without him, I just hope he gets his health on track.

He's been able to be productive only when he's playing centre.
Yes, I am suggesting he be placed on the wing to allow him to adapt to the speed of the game and so on without having to be concerned with the added responsibilities of the center ice position.

I really hope worst case scenario Higgins is out for 2 months, but is back a couple games before the playoffs...

Essential part of our top 9 IMO.

Definitely. He's such an important part of that second line; he's always the one battling for the pucks and getting them to Kesler/Booth.

@DarrenDreger: Canucks list Henrik Sedin as day to day, but remain unclear on specifics of injury.

Three staph infections in a year, a drug reaction and unable to keep food down. Sounds serious.

The only reason he can't keep food down is because of the medication. At least his infection didn't come back. Get the right meds and he should be fine.

To be honest, heavy duty antibiotics (biaxin, erythromycin, etc) wreck havoc on your digestive system. In fact, on of the most frequent side effects is projectile vomiting. No joke.

He needs a good three week course of PO Abx and light exertion, and he'll be fine. The biggest obstacle in his recovery so far has been the fact he hasn't completely healed up the first time, and multiple courses of antibiotics can lead to resistance. This is completely different from Lupul's issue which was a blood infection acquired from back surgery. No one even knows if Lupul even had staph, so it's hard to compare the two.

Not being able to keep food down is serious but if its only for a few days it's not a big deal...anyone know how long Higgy has had that?

I recall the same sort of comments when I questioned the serious of CoHo's back injury.

Ever since his first Staph, Higgins play has fallen off the map. He was an energy player who was so consistent early in the year. I'm willing to bet that he's been feeling the effects of his situation for a while now.

Though I guess you could say the same about other guys (like Hansen)... minus the valid excuse.

Not that I'm a doctor but I've had experience with this before.

A staph infection is merely a skin infection. There are a lot of infections one can get on the skin, but, the most prevalant right now is a variant called MRSA.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methici...ococcus_aureus

The key with MRSA, which is just a typical skin boil/abcess is that it's immune and can't be treated with any anti-biotics that we've got.

If Higgins does have an MRSA infection, and he's having multiple outbreaks that may lead to a hygiene issue.

uh MRSA is kinda serious. It killed my mother. She was older, and ended up having multiple organ failure, but spent 7 - 8 months in the hospital due to the MRSA.

Just a sore spot. pardon the rant.

(And the place I worked was great about it ... they fired me the day I came back from bereavement leave).

That's the worst thing I've ever heard on these boards. Brutal.

I always take the internet doctors with a big grain of salt, cause it's mostly just speculation (even the posters who actually do know their stuff don't have access to much information). Luckily with our massive divisional lead we can afford to let our players take as much time as they need to recover.

I hope Schroeder gets the call-up. I'd like to see how he looks with NHL talent. A line of Raymond and Hansen with Schroeder in the middle could keep its head above water I believe.
