Three staph infections in a year, a drug reaction and unable to keep food down. Sounds serious.
To be honest, heavy duty antibiotics (biaxin, erythromycin, etc) wreck havoc on your digestive system. In fact, on of the most frequent side effects is projectile vomiting. No joke.
He needs a good three week course of PO Abx and light exertion, and he'll be fine. The biggest obstacle in his recovery so far has been the fact he hasn't completely healed up the first time, and multiple courses of antibiotics can lead to resistance. This is completely different from Lupul's issue which was a blood infection acquired from back surgery. No one even knows if Lupul even had staph, so it's hard to compare the two.
Ever since his first Staph, Higgins play has fallen off the map. He was an energy player who was so consistent early in the year. I'm willing to bet that he's been feeling the effects of his situation for a while now.
Though I guess you could say the same about other guys (like Hansen)... minus the valid excuse.
(And the place I worked was great about it ... they fired me the day I came back from bereavement leave).
That's the worst thing I've ever heard on these boards. Brutal.
I always take the internet doctors with a big grain of salt, cause it's mostly just speculation (even the posters who actually do know their stuff don't have access to much information). Luckily with our massive divisional lead we can afford to let our players take as much time as they need to recover.
I hope Schroeder gets the call-up. I'd like to see how he looks with NHL talent. A line of Raymond and Hansen with Schroeder in the middle could keep its head above water I believe.
