IIRC, he blocked a shot during the last game.

Per tweet from Botchford:

Jason Botchford @BotchonCanucks
Keith Ballard skated yesterday. Had symptoms. Won't be going on road trip.

To be honest, when I saw AV laughing his ass off about Ballard's symptoms during his presser today, I wasn't sure if it was supposed to strike me as odd or not.

Only speculation at this point as he has not been designated LTIR - only on IR.

It may happen.

I suspect one of the reasons to recall Chris Tanev now was to push the Canucks as close as possible to the Upper Limit so that if an opportunity presented itself the Canucks could use as much of the cap exception room as possible on Ballard's salary.

Updating his injury, Ballard told Vigneault that he still had "upper body symptoms from the neck up" following his morning skate/workout.

Maybe Ballard is using a little self deprecating humor to lighten the mood? Maybe trying to diffuse his own concern over the seriousness and difficult nature of his injury? Seems normal as head injuries are scary because there is no predictable timeline to recovery.

(When Torres was suffering from food poisoning at the start of last years playoffs following his Eberle suspension, Vigneault joked that he had a mid body injury working its way down to soon become a lower body injury...implying Torres with explosive diarrhea. The humor is kinda in the same vein.)

Ballard was playing his best hockey in a Canuck uniform when he went down. He wants to play and wants to contribute.

Botchford disputing the bona fide nature of Ballard's injury based on no medical information and no medical expertise as well as suggesting the Canucks are willfully circumventing the cap system. = Garbage journalism IMO.

Maybe Botchford should stay in his lane and stick to his full on lispy Studs and Duds TSN segments and rave about who he admires as "Sthuch a Stthhud!... Woo!"

ballard has a super duper dry sense of humour that goes right over most people's heads in interviews so either thats AV laughing at the description because it sounds like his BS injury descriptions when it gets close to playoff time or ballard came up with it because its uncertain

either way av needs to laugh more at scrums anyways

Perhaps if Ballard played more like a man possessed than a man sleepwalking it might strike AV as much more funny?

It's a very interesting move if they do put Ballard on LTIR, it would almost certainly mean we'd be major players at the deadline. I originally didn't see much happening from Gillis at the deadline, but if they decide to go this route it wouldn't shock me if all of our picks were in play as well as some of our prospects. If Ballard is placed on LTIR, I wonder if it increases the chances that Schneider gets dealt. Schneider MAY get 2 more starts before the deadline, (Sunday in Dallas?) this would give Schneider a total of 20-21 starts this season already. We only have 2 back-to-back situations left after the deadline, it's fully possible Luongo could start all but 3 games down the stretch for a total of 58 games.

That's concerning. He has had labrum and abductor surgery in the past.

Four separate surgeries IIRC correctly.

Hopefully this is just soreness due to his long lay-off (basically two full seasons) and not a re-aggravation of an underlying problem.

It just seems so unlikely for him to go on LTIR considering theres still 20 games left, theres no way he'll miss even close to that. So if they did make some major moves if they put him on LTIR, they would be well over when he returns, unless theyre hoping for other injuries to players with big salaries

Pretty clearly if Ballard goes on LTIR he is there until the play-offs absent an injury to another equivalent contract or contracts.

This. Just when he was starting to find his groove again after being out for 2 years.
