3 transition goals for caps.

PP deflection off good entry.
Poor pass by them turned into sick passin play through neutral zone.
Trap induced turnover in neutral zone.

Interesting no Ovi at the end. Is it unusual for coaches league wide to not put out a guy looking for a hat up 2 goals at home? Ward with that horrible angle shot with 30 seconds opened the door to get Ovi out there. Do it for the fans, not for Ovi. PR correct Ovi looked zoned on the bench.

Maybe he did it to make a statement. Hats are for sissy's. Or he just wanted his checking line out and never gave it a passing thought.

The mains must be thrilled he didnt get an ENG for the hat.

Hamrlik`s best game I think.
That 1st period was awesome...they worked their tails off.

Things are looking UP!

Props to RandyHolt for calling the shellacking in Buff a throwaway holiday game on the road. Against the Preds, Rags and tonight the Caps have played it tight and still manage to get some circa 09' vintage O going.

We're still thin and wussified but with a few good trades (possibly next year post McPhee?) the Caps can come storming into the playoffs this year or next.

PS - trade Neuvy.

Because it is just awful to have a backup goalie with a $1.1mil contract...

When SOB is clicking, it is a friggin' sight to behold. Tonight was the first time in 2 years, thats right, 2 *** years, that I saw a line click that way.

I think Halpy is doing an admirable job centering the 2nd line as well. They've certainly had their chances.

Good win. 1st period was great. 2nd period was pretty much teh suck. And 3rd period was decent.

SOB was as good as we've seen in a year offensively. Kinda pissed that line didn't get put out after the late offsides. Would have been quite the confidence boost for 8 to get the hat trick.

Atlas you may remember the Rangers had to come here on New Years Day for a few years.... afternoon start time. Talk about a tough game.

You know what would be awesome, Dale leading us to a Cup his first year and then head back to London. Say he had unfinished business here he had to tend to. Say we are in good hands with JJ. And then waltz right back home.

Cue up the old video of saying he doesn't choke.

They limited Buffalo's chances. I never thought the caps were overwhelmed tonight. This is a good win. Lets celebrate it.
HAHAHAHA. That's freaking rich.

No chance you would have EVER made a comment like under BB.

Sarcasm ruins lives. It also gets me clicking at the ignore button. If you want to gnash your teeth at least make it funny, not that lame emo, nihilist stuff.

Happy New Year! (no sarcasm)

Btw, when I say the Caps are wussified I just mean they are short on guys who can and will drop the mitts. I doubt Weber would've tried to break Chimera's neck if Brashear was smiling at him from our bench. We have guys now who will try but they just aren't good at fighting. Erskine is but we need a heavy and another middleweight.

There is a difference between the other team being the aggressor for almost entirety of game versus a game being back and forth. Go find the GDT of the Detroit game under Bruce where we won, where I defended the team and the win while there were people here *****ing about how we didn't play 60 mins regardless of the win. So please, spare me your BS right now.

Uh huh, sure. I'm sure you defended the Boudreau Caps all the time for their lack of 60 minute effort.

Tonight wasn't a back-and-forth game, with effort all 60. The Caps 100% coasted in the 2nd period.

The Caps played beautiful hockey tonight. A couple lapses but you could see the cohesion. I can't remember a Caps team that cohered from G to D to the F's since the 1998 team. Tonight looked like the old 1980's Caps w/ a real goal scorer and a real center and a real goalie added in. (Sorry Gartner. Sorry Bondra. Sorry Pivo). The D personnel isn't quite right and they need more skill on O. But the prototype looked great tonight.

Not sure about a real goalie. Vokoun has looked better these past two games, but pucks are bouncing off him like a bumper in a pinball machine and he needs to get that under control. Neuvy had a 5 game run and couldn't seize the job for himself. Heres hoping Vokoun can for the sake of his teamates (especially D-men), us fans, and his financial future.

Ovechkin is playing so much better under DH it's becoming more and more obvious that BB was in fact a big part of the problem when it comes to asking the question we have all been asking ourselves for quite some time.

WTF happened to the old Alex Ovechkin?

Why bring Boudreau into this? He ****ing sucked. He couldn't coach to save his life from a wet paper bag and his arrogance and entitled mamma bear altitude rubbed off on the players and almost ruined this team for good. Even the management that backed him more than they would ever back anyone else in the world had no choice but to accept that fact because of how blindingly obvious it was. Now that he isn't coaching the most talented team in recent history he's being exposed for what he's always been, a completely inept coach who was lucky enough to catch lightning in a bottle.

Just be glad he's ruining Anaheim instead of this organization.

The issues are still more team make-up than effort.

Agree. Hamrlik is starting to play well. He has a great defensive stick when he's on his game.

Effort overcomes a lot of perceived problems with the team makeup.

Sure, there are some square pegs in round holes, but this team isn't so much a dog as it's a team that has to relearn how they're supposed to play.

Maybe it will work, maybe not.

I do think a tweak or two should occur, but I'm not certain a wholesale overhaul is what's critical.
