Nothing, he just rubs Torts the wrong way. He would never do anything to harm or distract the team, or go against team policies. He just pissed off the wrong guy, and is paying for it.
I don't understand why it's so difficult for people to grasp this concept.
I disagree with every word of your Avery assessment Khelvan, but couldn't agree more that this is a personality clash that finally came to head.
Sometimes as coach you have to make the tough decisions that you feel are for the betterment of the team.
We had a feeling that Tortorella wasn't going to put up with Sean when he first came in. Replacing Renney who was up there amongst the most vanilla and patient coaches in history was a bad sign for a player who rarely approached 20 goals, took a large number of penalties AND was a locker room prima donna.
remember when Torts was on TSN and said he would not want someone like Avery on his team.........then Rangers hire him, Sather called picking up Sean......Torts didnt like it but dealt with it.
The team has tons of bottom 6 depth now so Sean is gone. He was gone at seasons end anyways folks
I told the whole board about this right after it happened. My source is right inside the NYR org. He said it was "no big deal" - but Evil Clown Torts evidently thought otherwise... Whatever
Torts was most likely very happy when he saw Avery's mom in the locker room. Knew he finally had a way to get rid of him.
I have zero loyalty to Avery. None. I'm too old to have or play "favorites"
I just think his skill set, combined with his experience in this town, makes him more of an asset than what guys like Wolski, Rupp and EC bring.
Granted, he can take a bad penalty. It happens. But I'll take speed, aggressive forechecking and a proven playoff resume in New York over slow, lumbering forwards who offer either nothing but size or fancy shootout moves.
Fighting and shootouts means absolutely nothing in the playoffs. Speed, forechecking and hitting mean everything. If one of your top-6 go down to an injury, Avery is more suited to fill in that slot than anybody else.
Whatever, I just hope this is part of aome plan to acquire a veteran LW before the deadline. The team is already weak on the left side. Losing Avery doesnt help at all.
And stop with the "we're winning" stuff because right now, it's the regular season. Let's have tunnel vision for once. It's been a while.
What happened in Buffalo? That's the last game Avery played.
Interesting that the reporters say there was more to it than was reported, but none of them will report it. I guess what happens in Buffalo, stays in Buffalo.
9) I don’t even know what to say about Sean Avery anymore … except there was more to the Buffalo incident than has been reported—I don’t know why more wasn’t reported—and apparently that was the last straw. Because I thought he should have played in those divisional games, and he didn’t get a sniff. Though had he played and been a factor in those games, it would have been a lot more difficult to get rid of him, and the reaction to him being waived again would have been more loud and angry than it was.
I apologize in advance, but I haven't heard this story yet. I've avoided this thread, but looking through I've seen references to it being "cleaned up", so again I apologize if the Buffalo references are what got deleted.
Just to post on topic: I'm a big Avery fan, but the team is playing great, they have an edge. He's redundant and while I wish he pushed someone out, I don't know who I would pick to go right now. This is about the Rangers and if he isn't in the top 12 forwards, he has to go to Conn because of his contract.
KHL deal would usually have to be a loan from NYR correct? Like they can't just void his contract.
If Avery bolts to the KHL it does void his contract, unless he is on loan. AFAIK

Pretty much confirms my earlier suspicions (although some told me I was wrong). But he was at the team Christmas party and all that type of stuff. really confused as to what the issue was, hope it comes out some day.

Hopefully he will end up somewhere, where a late season/ playoff recall might be possible if needed. If he was to come back at that point, he'd be fired up to prove to any other team that he might be worth the risk to sign next season.
so nobody wants poor Sean.....I was hoping FLA so we could see him right away
Awww "poor" avery. Nobody wants him because he's a "hand grenade" as someone appropriately described him earlier in this thread. Why would any team want to deal with his ********. Sure, cap implications, etc, had a lot to do with it. But what I find the most embarassing is the Avery cult bashing guys like Torts, Christensen, Mitchell, Rupp, and Boyle. The main reason NOONE wants Avery is because of Avery. He has played and talked his way out of the NHL, and there's noone to blame but himself
I like Avery and I've come to his defense in the past, but for another "incident" to occur... really, man? I'm not sure what he did, but he should have been on his best behavior when he was called up. This was probably his last chance to prove that he belongs on this team (and possibly in the NHL) so to foul it up by doing something that would piss off the coach or others is just beyond stupid.
Dude, NO ONE on this board praised Christensen beyond "he might make a good third line center" when we picked him up; as of this past offseason, the highest compliment he got from me or anyone else was "he's a good candidate for 13th forward"; and I don't think anyone anywhere thinks he'll be back next year.
Honestly, I wish that more GMs were like YOU - because if they were, clearly all we would need to acquire a Bobby Ryan would be Sean Avery. Hell, you'd think that you had pulled one over on Slats.
Come to think of it, Achene... are you Bob Gainey?
I love the fact that you can flame me all you want, thereby baiting me into responding with flaming of my own, and only I will receive an infraction.
Regardless, you are the prototypical fool who cannot see the writing on the wall. Slather is pretty good at trading and terrible at free agent signing (this might be going over your head because I'm certain you were jumping for joy with Redden, Drury, Gomez, and Rosy and are still angry at their departures).
Artem Anisimov's ability to score goals and feel free is nothing more or less than adequate. We either continue paying a par player top-line money and, because height is everything to Sather, sign him for $39 million for 6 years in two years, or we trade him for the final piece of this year's Stanley Cup puzzle.
And let me remind you that Wolski and Fedotenko are crap (call the latter "captain clutch" all you want).
