Brutal punches by Gill, almost had to close the video because it was too violent.

Lol, that fight has as many punches landed than the one between Downey and that guy from Ottawa a few years back.

Why did they even get majors?

Does anyone else get the feeling Hal Gill had absolutely no interest in that fight?

Hard to tell, he's such a terrible fighter and waste of size, he gets bullied by players half his size.

Thornborn was going a little reckless due to being on the bad end of a 7-3 game. Gill didn't want to fight, but probably decided it was enough.

He uses his size well at playing hockey. His size is the only reason he has an NHL job. Sure he's a terrible fighter, but he's not soft by any means.

I don't understand how someone with Gill's height and reach can be SUCH a bad fighter. To go through a whole fight and not throw a single punch... come on, man. Have some pride.

Not that fighting is the be-all of being a great player, but Gill ought to at least do a little bit of training just so he doesn't come off as a total embarrassment.

He's joked about this in the past. Just said that punching a person in the face isn't part of his personality. He just doesn't want to do it and has never tried to learn.

That just has a little bit of circa-2002 Joe Thornton to it. You've got 20 guys on the bench and 20,000 people in the arena looking for an emotional lift. Another man is trying to cave your face in. At least make it look like you're trying to stand up to him.

I'm not a Hal Gill hater, Anthony Stewart pissed me off for the same reason just about a week ago.

My thoughts exactly. Not that he ever really looks like he wants to be in a fight, but this one was on another level.

This.
Gill took the fight to make sure Thornburn would not go crazy on another Habs player.
He did not want to fight, but he wanted to take Thornburn out of the game, clever move by Gill.

Hal Gill hasn't thrown a punch since 2002.

He uses it well in some respects, it is the reason he has a job for sure, but he still doesn't use it even remotely close to as much as he should. He's absolutely soft, guys like Neil love playing him. That shouldn't happen.

I can understand soft play (although I'm not a fan of it), some guys aren't born with that mentality, and you can't help how naturally big you are. But if you're gonna fight, at least make it count.

Still waiting to see a fight, Gill must have taught PK how not to fight.

Good move by Gill, he didn't want to fight but he took frustrated Thorburn out of the game before he tried something dirty on our players.
