Since we're almost at the half way point, thought it'd be fun to throw some predictions out there for the second half.
NHL predictions:
-NY Rangers collapse back to earth as their shooting and goaltending regresses
-Wild continue their demise and finish 13th in the West
-Columbus has a winning record in the second half (last year's Devils anyone?)
-St. Louis challenges for the top spot in the West
-Washington wins the southeast
-Eric Nystrom scores 4 goals the rest of the season
-Malkin wins MVP
-Chicago v. Washington Stanley Cup (although this is contingent on if PIT gets Crosby back)
Devils predictions:
-Devils finish with more points than the Rangers
-David Clarkson hits 25 goals
-Dainius Zubrus scores 6 goals in the final 46 games
-Jacob Josefson puts up .75 PPG after returning from injury
-Kurtis Foster is a regular healthy scratch in the second half
-Matt Taormina emerges as a staple on the blue line
-Kovalchuk and Parise both hit 30 goals
-Larsson ends up with 30 points
Have at it!
And a random aside, but it's kind of scary how good the Central Division is. Three of those teams could stake a claim for best in the NHL, while Nashville is no push over.
elias, kovy, parise, and henrique, all finish with above 80 pts
marty gets 9 shutouts and plays most of second half
devils win last 14 games of season and sweep rags in first round
larsson and henrique on roty ballot and adam wins
marty scores a goal

I lol'd
My turn.
- Devils finish 5th in conference trailing division leaders Boston, Philly and Washington (deal with it), beat Rangers in 6 games in round 1
- Columbus makes respectable run towards .500 but finishes 3 games below
- the Nuge hits a rookie slump caused by the Nude pics he sent to a reporter "girlfriend" while Henrique produces away making any Adam win ROTY (except Luke)
- the Captain resigns for 50m/7y
- Clarkson hits his ass on the ice less often than he records a point
- Marty records a record-breaking 7-point season with 1G 6A
Bold prediction: By the end of the year the PP is better than the PK. Yeah obviously kidding about that one.
Devils squeak into the playoffs in the 8th spot after beating the Rags in a shootout in the final game of the season, eliminating the Rags from the playoffs.
-Devils finish with 96 points and grab 6th in the East
-Zajac struggles offensively and finishes with 25 points or less
-Brodeur records no shutouts but finishes the season with a .905 SV% (+/- .002)
-Elias finishes the year with +30 goals and +70 points
-Fayne hits 20 points
-Zubrus doesn't score as many goals but still hits 40 points
Don't get me wrong, I would love if we finished with more points then the Rangers but I don't see that happening.
Our forwards are way deeper than theirs when you add Zajac to the mix. The Devils have the highest number of 10 goal scorers in the league right now (7), and that's not even including Zajac.

That is very good forward depth. Need more contributions from the defence, however.
I went back, and looked, and did you know in 06/07, and in 07/08 we had similar record after 36 games. I think maybe the same amount of wins both seasons at this time, and 2 less losses with 2 more overtime losses, and we were in the Division lead? This Division is so competitive now. It was then too, but this year exceptionally.
Some years this would be good enough for Division lead or at least tie.
most of your predictions are banking on the fact that teams will return to their "normal" form. completely disregards the possibility of prolonged excellence. i don't agree.
